The hotel is conveniently located near the station which suited me as I had to use trains eceryday for my sightseeing near Munich. The room rates were very high , because of fairs in the city, they said. The street turns into a red-light area at night - a little scary. The staff were very courteous.

We stayed one night in the Royal Hotel recently. The hotel itself is excellent. Nice rooms that are well equipped, clean, have proper bathrooms. Other facilities like the lounge area are also very good and it's overall very good value for money. The only possible negative is the location, which is central, but the hotel is located right above a strip club and the street seems to be a bit of a red light area at night, so might not be ideal especially when travelling with kids.

I wondered why this hotel was so cheap, very central you can walk everywhere, clean, good standard, great breakfast. Reason I believe is the location (street). It is only this street but it is full of adult establishments. live show opposite, and several 'champagne' bars below. Having said that it was incredibly cheap for central Munich and did everything we needed. I am not sure I would want to take my family there but for couples / single groups it is fine. Just ask for a room at the rear as the front is noisy from the 'activities' outside, and the hotel does not have any air conditioning tso was very hot at night (34C when we were there). Staff were excellent and there is discounted parking if you want it at €10 per night.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back (rear courtyard)

Munich was the first stop on our 15 day 7 country trek across Europe and Hotel Royal was the perfect place for our group of 8! About a 5 minute walk from the train station made it easy for us to find after our long flights from the States. The area seemed perfectly safe to me even though it was not in the most touristy place in Munich and once we walked in the hotel we felt completely at ease. Hotel was very clean and the employees were extremely helpful and very friendly. Also, a great plus for us was the breakfast was very good! Would definitely stay here again!

It was summer, a first-timer in Munich. Royal Hotel is a decent hotel, good value for money we could find near the main train station as we were travelling from Frankfurt with 2 young children(7 & 8 yrs old). Booked through their website but couldn't get an appropriate room to accomodate us and so I booked the double room instead. Upon checkin-in, when the hotel staff saw our 2 kids, we got a surprise of free upgrade to a bigger with additional beds. It was the best surprise we ever got and were so pleased. Royal Hotel serves nice continental breakfast in their nice and simple breakfast lounge. Would recommend this hotel to family and friends when visiting Munich, and of course we will stay here again if we were to come back again.

Hotel Royal was exactly what we were looking for during our Munich stay. Excellent service (they stored our backpacks) clean and modern rooms, fantastic, included breakfast and ideal location (close to central train station). We will stay again!

First, the good news. This is a very nice hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful, the breakfast is delicious, everything is clean, and there is good wifi. As other reviewers have noted, it is in a seedy area, but an area that is much frequented by travelling businesspeople and tourists. While I felt perfectly safe on the street, I would not bring impressionable children to this hotel. There is a lot of street noise if your room is on that side, but closing the windows blocks almost all of it. However, when we arrived the elevator was out of order. This is a 6 story hotel. The reception desk is on the 2nd floor (if you are an American). They took one look at our aging selves and moved us from the top floor to the 2nd floor. We stayed there 4 days and saw absolutely no work being done on the elevator. My German is not good enough to say whether the elevator was shut down "pending" inspection or "because of" inspection, but I had the feeling it was not going to be working any time soon. Then, one of the days we were there, the hot water had to be turned off for 8 hours, which did not inconvenience us but gave me the feeling that perhaps the hotel is having infrastructure problems. Anyway, if close to our stay (May 2014) I would check on the elevator before reserving a room here. Even young, healthy couples were struggling with hauling their luggage to the upper floors.

Room Tip: We were on the street side, which was noisy at night with the windows open. I'm sure the courtya...
