“Oktoberfest visit”
Reviewed 25 September 2009

Selected the hotel based on location to the Okteberfest site. It is 5 min. from the main Munich rail terminal and ten minutes walk to the festival.

Hotel has a reception on the first floor and 5 further floors of bedrooms. The single lift worked ok but could get busy at peak times. Our twin room had been refurbished and was an adequate size with a compact ensuite shower room. All was well maintained and very clean.

Our room was at the back of the hotel and was quiet; the front faces a busy street with late night noise and whilst we felt very safe it is seedy. Access at night was via an intercom with the hotel have a 24 hour reception who were always helpful and courteous.

Breakfast was included in the rate and had a good selection of basic items including a small cooked section. Coffee was available 24 hours from reception.

If I visited again I would use for the convenience. We booked late and as this was the Oktoberfest premium prices applied.

POSITIVES: Pascha at the desk is awesome!!! Perfectly located near main train station (Hauptbahnhof) and underground transportation. Pension had very nice breakfast room. Staff was very courteous. Let us check in early! Building very clean. Easy to get to pedestrian area. Room was very clean. Housekeeper came every day. Bathroom "European" small. NEGATIVES: Street noise at night. No air conditioning in summer. One computer for internet.

The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, with lot of choices. Coffee and tea were free in the lobby for the whole day. I highly recommend this hotel.

Great hotel only one block from the train station. The hotel is also very close to the Marienplatz. The staff were all very friendly and we loved the breakfast. We will not hesitate to stay there again.

This is a decent hotel, resonably priced and in a convenient location. Rooms are ok for the price, staff is friendly. The hotel is located in the red light district, with strip clubs on the street below. It actually felt safe enough, but street noise in the night was a major problem - I'm a deep sleeper but couldn't sleep the first night. Would be fine to stay here IF you can get a room that's not facing the street.

Excellent location near train station - and the neighbourhood is fine! It's true there are a couple of sex shops on the street, but I think other reviewers have exaggerated the seediness of the area. Good rooms for the price, great breakfast and very hekpful and friendly staff - oh, and free coffee during the day! What more do you need?

The Royal Hotel is close to the central train station and is all non-smoking. My room was clean and faced the front street. The neighborhood consisted of mostly jewelry stores, small casinos and even a few strip clubs. The double glazed windows cut most of the street noise. Because of the neighborhood, the street noise lasted into the late hours. Our room did not have air conditioning and fortunately the weather was cool enough that we were able to keep the windows shut. Although the hotel was quite nice and even has free 24 hour coffee, I would rather not stay in that part of town on my next visit.
