This hotel is very handy to the main train station and all S and U-bahn connections. You are only a 10 minute walk to Oktoberfest and about the same to the Marienplatz. It would be hard to find a better location but it is also in the Red Light District and there is noise all night long. We never felt unsafe in the area, but you'll need ear plugs to sleep if you have a room that faces the street and nearly all of them do. I would suggest you ask for a room that is not on the street side (2 of the 7 rooms on each floor are on the quiet side.

The breakfast is very nice and the staff very attentive.

Hotel Royal was a great hotel for Oktoberfest. THe breakfast was yummy. The hotel was clean and the staff were helpful. THe area outside of the hotel is a little seedy but not scary at all. The windows shut out all street noise. The beds were very comfy and the pillows were great. The rooms were really nice and spacious. We even had a little balcony.

Royal Hotel Munich is very central for wandering around Munich, you wil also benefit from having a lovely fresh, plentiful breakfast every morning. There has to be something for everyone at the buffet. The staff are very helpful and he rooms are spotless. We stayed on the sixth floor and had a terrace area that we could share with neighbouring rooms. Even though it was at the front of the building we didn't get much street noise bcause we were on the 6th floor. You are close to a few strip clubs but nothing to scare anyone off, no girls on the street, but that's the price you pay in any city when you are close to a main train station and in the city centre.

The pedestrianised town centre is only 5 minute walk away. I'd recommend getting a dayy pass for the transport system and up to 5 adults can travel around the city on trams, buses and trains for a total of 9 euro - a bargain.

If you feel hungry then head for the Augisteiner Beer Hall, half way down on the right hand side as you head for Marienplatz. Norbert is the manager and he runs a great beer hall, the food is hearty and we loved the wild boar and mushrooms that we ate a couple of times as it was so good. The beer is fantastic and the atmosphere was great.

Make sure you have a look around the Virtualmarket - full of lovely fresh food stalls with some great bars and eating places just off the market. We ate in Ludwigs and enjoyed the ffod there.

All in all Munich is a fascinating place, the historical buildings are great, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the local people take great pride in their city and heritage.

Selected the hotel based on location to the Okteberfest site. It is 5 min. from the main Munich rail terminal and ten minutes walk to the festival.

Hotel has a reception on the first floor and 5 further floors of bedrooms. The single lift worked ok but could get busy at peak times. Our twin room had been refurbished and was an adequate size with a compact ensuite shower room. All was well maintained and very clean.

Our room was at the back of the hotel and was quiet; the front faces a busy street with late night noise and whilst we felt very safe it is seedy. Access at night was via an intercom with the hotel have a 24 hour reception who were always helpful and courteous.

Breakfast was included in the rate and had a good selection of basic items including a small cooked section. Coffee was available 24 hours from reception.

If I visited again I would use for the convenience. We booked late and as this was the Oktoberfest premium prices applied.
