Great location, parking in the basement - very convenient. Very friendly staff who helped us out with amongst other things printing tickets we had received in an e-mail. Room was big, clean and quiet. We did not have breakfast so we cannot rate that though. Very nice!

Staff: Extremely efficient and courteous. Perfect English and many other languages catered for. Information literature in English, German, Russian and Arabic etc. Reception staff were able to answer all questions about the surrounding area and also the airport/flight information. They were also very intuitive and anticipated visitors needs – i.e. you receive a proactive service rather than just a reactive one. Map of the city provided on arrival. Staff were also available to assist with trip bookings.

Food: Very nice beer garden in the centre of the hotel for eating on warmer days. Restaurant is excellent, nice ambiance, good service and a very good selection on the menu including vegan dishes.

Room: Spacious and perfect for leisure or business stay. Large bed, separate bathroom with bath and shower, large desk and chairs, separate side table, FREE mini bar which is re-stocked on a daily basis with beer, coca-cola, sparkling and still water.

Situation: Perfectly situated only 5 mins walk from the main train station and also the tour busses which leave from outside the Karstadt department store opposite the station.

Note: The hotel is in a busy side street which is also the location for youth hostels, an international telephone call centre and there is an Italian restaurant at the end of the road.

In summary - a perfect city hotel, efficiently run.

Lovely spacious rooms, we booked the priviledge room as we have 2kids, worth every penny. Beds super comfy, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Location is close to everythin but the street itself isnt the best thing about the hotel, but was safe enough for us. Already planning our next visit next January.
P.s. Only thing needs improvement is housekeeping

We stayed in a room that was 150 euro a night. It was spacious and very comfortable with free minibar, internet, bath robes, a day bed, etc... Nicest room I have ever stayed in. If you are ok spending that kind of money than I can only recommend the ~150 Euro rooms

We stayed at this hotel for 3 days the end of July. The hotel is really close to the central train station, so the transportation options are excellent. All the public transport plus the tour buses are very close. I traveled with my cousin and we had no problem with the area, there were lots of young kids in the sidewalk (hotel is next to a couple of hostels) at night but no problem what so ever coming and going at any time. The hotel is modern and it is kept very clean. Rooms are good size and very clean and the a/c is a welcome perk at the end of a hot day of walking, so is the included water, coke and beer in the mini fridge, they restock every day. Our room was in the back, so no noise what so ever. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of storage. I have to say that we were very pleased with this hotel, and specially with the front desk employees, every one of them was very happy to help. Kudos to Sebastian and Maria, superb service. Thanks so much. I will definitely stay here again if or when I return to Munich.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are quieter.

We have found it difficult to allocate a suitably fair number of 'stars' to this hotel, as will become obvious.

We are 78 and 72 respectively and stayed here for 7 nights between 10th and 17th July 2014 (sorry for delayed review – personal/health problems) and, since we were staying for a full week, chose a Privilege Room for the additional space.

Firstly, and on arrival, we were told that none of the Privilege Rooms has a bathtub, notwithstanding the Hotel's website page 'Room Facilities' which categorically states that ALL rooms have a bathtub. This is completely misleading and we would NOT have booked this Hotel if we had known.

On arriving, we found the Reception Staff very friendly and helpful. As regards the room itself, however, and given that the average room price per night (even though it included breakfast for two) was EUR187.00, there were other disappointments. Apart from the lack of bathtub, the wardrobe space was completely insufficient for a couple staying a whole week and the so-called sofa was in fact one armchair coupled with a square backless stool to form a sort of chaise longue, unsuitable for two persons.

The Privilege Rooms overlook an inner courtyard, which is obviously quieter than those facing the road. During our stay, however, the weather in the evenings was such that the beergarden in the inner courtyard was not used, - we do not know if the room would have been so quiet if the beergarden had been in use until late at night.

The Hotel has 167 rooms – a total of two small lifts (which are also used by the chambermaids to return their 'wheelie bins' to the basement) is completely inadequate, even without the added confusion of large groups arriving or departing. (It was also surprising that, when we wanted to ask the chambermaid something, she spoke neither English - or German!) Similarly, the reception/lounge area is inadequate, again particularly when groups are arriving or departing, let alone when – as was the case on one day – a small group of about 10 people had obviously checked out but were waiting for an evening flight, occupying all the available chairs, even to the extent of lying out full length fast asleep. It was not a very '4 star' image that was created to anybody entering the hotel for the first time.

Breakfast itself was perfectly acceptable, with good choices etc but the layout of the buffet bar was badly thought out, causing congestion. For example, bread, rolls etc are at one end of the bar but the butter is right at the other end, the cereals were at the beginning but the spoons were nowhere near – in itself, this might not seem important, except that the effect is to make it necessary for guests to stay longer walking up and down along the bar, looking for items.

As mentioned by other reviewers, the location of the Hotel is perfect for train, S-Bahn and U-Bahn connections, as well as for simply walking into the centre. It is also true that some people might find the surrounding area to be a bit offputting but, at no time did we feel unsafe.

In short, our final feeling was one of disappointment, rather than any other. We did enjoy our stay, due probably to the friendly and helpful staff, but we can only base our rating on our own overall personal experience when we were actually there. For a single guest staying only one night, our disappointments are probably irrelevant but we cannot recommend it for stays longer than a couple of nights. Comparing it with other 4 star hotels in the Mercure group (Grand Hotel Biedemeier in Vienna and the Dusseldorf City Center), we have rated it 3 TripAdvisor stars.

Dear "Europhilecouple",

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Hotel München City Center. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations.
At Mercure, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us.

First of all I would like to thank you for your commendation to our Team that makes any effort to serve you the best possible way.

Please let me answer some parts of your review:
Our Website does not have any discription pointing out that all rooms are equiped with a bathtub. You will find check marks within the bathrrom amenities meaning bathtub or shower. I am sorry that this check mark system caused a misunderstanding. I will forward this point to our head office to check if there is a possibility of a clearer description.
Our Rooms to the backyard are in fact quiet, even if the beergarden is used since the bavarian laws are rather strict concerning the closing hours at night.
Thank you again for your review of our copious breakfast buffet and thank you for pointing out some unhelpful layout. We will review this matter and adapt some parts if possible.

We appreciate your sharing your feedback, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future.
Sincerely
Benedikt Heydweiller
