“A charrming, European Hotel”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

My husband, 2 children (15 and 12) and myself stayed at this charming hotel on our first visit to Munich. It was exactly as I imagined a European hotel to be. On the smaller side, the lobby was very intimate and nicely appointed. The front desk staff was very friendly and extremely helpful and check in was a breeze. The rooms were small, but not uncomfortably so. We were two to a room and there was just enough to space to stretch out and be comfortable. The rooms were spotless and nicely decorated and there was enough space to open luggage and get comfortable. The bathrooms were immaculate and linens were wonderfully fresh and clean. We had two rooms on the first floor. The first overlooked a side street and the second overlooked a terrace with flowers and chairs and tables. The restaurant was a bit overpriced for breakfast, but the selection was nice and very European. I would suggest walking down to the corner to the Coffee Fellows restaurant instead. They had wonderful coffee as well as pastries, sandwiches, fresh fruit and yogurts. And they were much more reasonably priced. It was also nice to sit at the one of the many tables on the sidewalk and just enjoy the passers-by. This hotel is located in a quieter part of town, but is located across the street from the train station. This was perfect, as wee booked tours through Radius that left and returned at this station. We also grabbed the train from Munich to Berlin there, so keep this in mind if your planning on traveling via rail. The hotel is approximately 5 or so blocks from the Marianplatz, a nice area with shops and restaurants and the beautiful Glockenspiel. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who does not feel the need to be in the throngs of visitors and residents who traverse Munich daily. A bit on the quiet side, but within walking distance to many areas

What we liked - our room was clean and spacious, hotel was convenient to the train station, we could walk to the central tourist area (20 minute walk) Our beds were very comfortable and we liked the down comforter and pillows.
What we didn't - the free wifi was only for 15 minutes a day and then you had to pay, it was nice there was a hair dryer but it was very low powered, the hotel is also located near a casino and erotic shop.
If I was to visit Munich again as a tourist, I'd seek out a hotel closer to the central tourist area.

Although the hotel seems a bit old at first glance, the rooms are nice and modern. Basic comfort, nothing too fancy though, even though it's a four star hotel. Central location is convenient and staff is very friendly.

For sensitive sleepers I would recommend a room with a backyard view. Rooms on the front and side are too noisy for me, as this hotel is located in quite a busy street.

Best and most convenient for a senior person traveling alone. It' s right across the street from the Haupt Bahn Hauf,( Munich main train station). It's traditional Bavarian, upscale, and convenient to all sites in Munich. The calling card for me was Maximillian , concierge, who made sure I not only felt welcome after a long Lufthansa flight from California , but his asking me what I needed to make my stay more comfortable. He's not there now, retired, but the legend lives on. I recommend this hotel for it's convenience, uber cleanliness und excellent cuisine. I hope to be coming for years to come. I stay here mostly in the winter months, before during or after Fasching.

Room Tip: All are terrific!

Not only is the hotel immediately adjacent to the train station at which we had just arrived after a most enjoyable trip from London via Paris but it's very quiet with excellent double glazing and almost totally silent air conditioning. However the best bit of our stay was the top quality of the beds resulting in a very good nights sleep . Altogether excellent, the only mistake we made was to opt for bed without breakfast as we had the impression from other reviews that the in house breakfast was unexciting and expensive. Well, I'm not sure what Muncheners do for breakfast once they hit the city but we had to search hard to find anything half decent and would have been better off in the hotel coffee shop

As to price, for the quality of the beds, there is little to complain about.

We stayed at the Eden Wolff for two nights in August 2014.

We booked this hotel for two main reasons:
1) The location just opposite the main station and a few minutes' walk from the town centre is convenient - I have stayed in other hotels in that area before and it's very handy (if not picturesque)
2) I preferred the style ("modern, eclectic Bavarian" judging from the hotel's photos on its website) to that of some of the other, more design led hotels

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were shown to a room on the 4th floor. When we entered the room, this was completely different from the pictures we had seen. It was tiny. The furniture was from the 1970s. The carpets and upholstery (of the single armchair in the room) were quite dirty. The bathroom, though clean, was at least 20 years out of date. This was hugely disappointing, so we went back to reception and asked for a room that matched the ones shown on the hotel's website. After lots of to-ing and fro-ing, we were then given such a room - but very, very grudgingly. Essentially, we were told that we could have a better room if we were happy with the hotel 'taking it away from another guest who should have got this room'. Very unprofessional.

Once we had our room, we then set about signing up to the hotel's WiFi. We were told that this would cost €10 per night. Although that's not cheap and many hotels now include WiFi in their rates, we were ok with this. Until we saw that the €10 price is a 'one device' price. Each additional device comes with an additional charge - I think it was €5 per day per device. We had a total of 5 devices on us that we would have liked to hook up to the wireless: My husband's laptop and mobile, my personal and work mobiles and my Kindle. We only registered the laptop in the end and were glad that we hadn't bothered with the other devices: The WiFi was woefully slow and kept disconnecting. Not worth the money at all.

Our room was ok (once we had it!). It was reasonably spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. There was a table with a bench and armchair in one corner of the room. The armchair showed that whoever furnished the room hadn't spent any time thinking about how it would be used - if you sat on the (low) armchair, then your chin would be level with the tabletop. Funny, but shows lack of attention to detail. The air conditioning in the room worked reasonably well. There was a decent flat screen TV and a mini bar. All good.

The bathroom obviously had not been renovated at the same time as the room itself. The marble floor and wall tiles were old, with many cracks and badly filled holes. But it was clean and therefore servicable. Water pressure and temperature were an issue though - the shower changed temperature a few time when I used it, from freezing cold to boiling hot. I think other reviewers also commented on this. The bath would also hugely benefit from having a non-slip coating or mat to prevent accidents.

We also had breakfast in the hotel. This was good - a generous buffet with quite a lot of choice. Tables could have been cleared a bit more quickly, but I'm being picky now.

All in all, we won't be returning to this hotel. We felt very misled by the stylish imagery on the hotel website and the rooms themselves just did not live up to the promise. The staff were a bit hit and miss (the rude receptionist on the first day really spoiled the whole thing) and the issues with WiFi and water temperatures were just too annoying. Next time we go to Munich, we'll stay at the Leonardo Hotel on the other side of the station again - it may not have any 'Bavarian flair', but at least we won't have any of these problems again!

Room Tip: If they offer you an old, unrenovated room, refuse to take it. Make sure you get what you paid for!

This hotel is exactly opposite the train strain so very convenient. The air conditioning wasn't very effective and weirdly there wasn't any facilities to make tea and coffee in the room. The hotel overall is very plush. You can buy tickets for public transport from the reception which is very handy. There is only half an hour free wifi and the connection wasn't very good which isn't great for a modern hotel.
