A group of seven stayed for 4 nights. Location was chosen for proximity to Munich's main station, the Hauptbanhof, which can be reached directly by train from the airport. On that basis it was a good place to stay as obviously many places of interest can be accessed by the excellent train network.
The hotel itself is quite adequate for a sightseeing visit as most of the time is spent outside. The rooms are small, particularly the bathroom, but they are clean and well maintained with daily cleaning. Beds are very comfortable and street noise was negligible. There was some noise from other rooms and guests but that was more down to inconsiderate behaviour than the hotel itself.
The reception/bar area waas fine for meeting up and having a nightcap and the free internet was very useful. We had breakfast on a couple of days which was adequate at 10€ each but with only a limited choice of hot food and was taken really just for the convenience. There are plenty of other places if you are prepared to look around.
Basically, it is a good choice for those on a budget. One word of advice---we found it cheaper to book a 3 night stay witha special discount and then book the fourth night separately. This was much cheaper than booking a four night stay right through!
Munich itself is a friendly place with plenty to see and do for a short break . The biggest plus is the fantastic transport system with frequent trains and clean stations. The all day ticket is great value for getting around and if you are in a small group then the partner ticket is even better. Five of us travelled to Salzburg for 29€ return on the partner ticket which is amazing! Salzburg itself is well wort a visit even though it is a 2 hour journey each way.
So Munich is highly recommended for a visit and the Ibis Munchen City is a satisfactory base to stay. Be aware that there are other Ibis hotels in Munich at different locations.
