“Pleasant and good location”
Reviewed 15 October 2011

We found the Exquisit hotel quite comfortable. Our room overlooked a quiet courtyard and was of a reasonable size. There was no air conditioning in the room and although this was no problem for us, it could become too warm in summer. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of food. The hotel is centrally located as a ten minute casual walk took us into the centre of Marien Platz. Staff were all very friendly and were extremely helpful with any query, even assisting us with a GPS system in a hire car. We were happy with our stay at Hotel Exquisit and would recommend it to other travellers

The hotel Exquisit is a really good choice if you stay in Munich.
The LOCATION is superb: it's very close to Sendlinger Tor, one of the entrances to the central part of Munich. And it takes you about 15 minutes to walk to the Central Station. The surrounding area is quite safe, there's an underground and a tram stations nearby.
The ROOM I had was clean and spacious, with a balcony overlooking a little green courtyard, the bed was comfortable, and it was quiet at night. The downsize is that it wasn't air-conditioned (not a problem in the chilly summer of 2011!) and didn't have a safe.
BREAKFAST was good, with a wide choice of food. If the weather is good you can eat it in the open courtyard.
Overall, the hotel is nice, there's a computer and a printer for guests in the lobby which is very convenient. I'd say it's a very "practical" hotel but I wish it had more atmosphere, more charm - to make it more memorable... I think the hotel has a potential for that!
I'd definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and when in Munich myself, I could think of staying here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room facing the inner courtyard.

Hotel Exquisit was a highlight of our trip to Munich. It is very close to public transit, the staff is excellent, and the rooms were large and comfortable. There was even a bath tub, a first for us in 5 countries in Europe. Highly recommended.

I've stayed twice at the Hotel Exquisit and had a great stay both times. My first stay was for business in a single room. The room was very small but clean and adequate for my needs. It would have been difficult to do work in the room though as there was no desk in the single room. My second stay was with my family and we stayed in a 2 level Maisonette room. The room was very spacious though we needed to use the downstairs couch and an additional bed for my kids.

Staff: The staff was very accommodating and gracious. We arrived early on a overnight train at around 7:30am and the staff was able to get us into a room right away.

Location & Transportation: Although you need to walk through the red-light district (which isn't so bad day or night), the street on which the hotel is located is very clean and generally fairly quiet. The hotel is within 20 minutes walk of most of the main tourist attractions in central Munich. The U-Bahn is very close by as well for further trips. The hotel has a garage underneath which is very convenient for the days on which we had a car.

Rooms: We found the rooms to be very well-kept. Our kids loved the two level room that we were in and we liked having some separation from our kids at night.

Breakfast: Breakfast was a real surprise and highlight. Breakfast included all sorts of hot and cold dishes, breads, and yogurts, meats and fish.

Room Tip: Higher floors and rooms facing the back might have less street noise. I believe the 2-level maisone...

-Location:

This hotel is in a good location, called to the Marienplatz (5 min walk). During the day it is a vibrant area. At night it isn't a bad area, and didn't feel dangerous by any means, but it felt a little empty at night once you got close to the hotel.

There is an u-bahn stop a couple minutes from the hotel (only one stop from the central train station), as well as a tram stop in the same location. WIth the excellent German transportation system, it is thus easy to get around the city, to/from the airport, to/from the central train station, etc.

There are some restaurants close to the hotel, but overall it seemed like the stuff right by the hotel was just so so. There are a lot of options (albeit mostly touristy) at the nearby Marienplatz though

-Staff:

Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They were conversational and provided some good tips. When I mentioned that I might try to go to Koln, the gentleman at the front desk gave me a section of a guidebook on Koln.

-Breakfast

Breakfast was pretty good. Decent selection of pastries, fruit, etc., and they were happy to bring eggs or coffee.

-Rooms

The room was a nice size and decently decorated. However, in warm weather, like when I was there, the room is quite hot because there is no air conditioning. They do give you a fan, but when you are spending a lot of money for a hotel room you'd like to not be really hot at night. In other seasons of the year this probably isn't an issue at all.

The other complaint with the room is that there is no safe. I believe the front desk has a safe, but when you are wanting frequent access to certain things in your safe this isn't a great option.

-Internet

As mentioned in several of the reviews, the wifi choice is pretty disappointing. There is wifi, but you it is a t-mobile hot spot where you basically have to pay 20 euros for 10 hours of total access. Not a great deal, but even worse is that there were some issues one night with the reception (though this may be a t-mobile issue, not the hotel's problem). There is one desktop computer in the lobby, so if all you need to do is check your email once a day, that could be a good option.

Overall, I would return, though probably not in summer or early fall.

This hotel has a great location but even with the windows closed there is a great deal of street noise. If you need to open the windows, it is unbearable. The bar across the street stays open very late and if there is a rugby game there is a lot of noise. Staff is fine for the most part but doesn't know much about the restaurants even the one across the street. Breakfast is OK.

Rooms - Comfortable, great space in bathrooms (2 sinks and room to keep all your essentials), water pressure I wish I could find in the States, great beds (we do like firm mattresses). No, the rooms aren't air-conditioned, as is true of many hotels in Germany. While we were there, the temperature got up into the low to mid 80s a day or two, but we found that using the fan and cracking the windows was more than adequate for a pleasant stay.

Staff - wonderful. Always gracious and welcoming. Happy to give any assistance. One of our group left his Kindle and a jacket in the room. The staff found it and had it waiting for us when we stopped back through Munich on our way to Frankfurt a few days later.

Location - it worked great for us. We are walkers, and enjoyed the relatively short walk to the Marienplatz and other areas. It was also mere steps from the Sendlinger Tor station, and you could buy U-Bahn tickets at the desk. We rode the train in, left by train, took a day trip by train, and the location was great for that. We walked from the train station with all our luggage (and we were a group of 6 55-60 year olds, not kids with a backpack) and found it an easy trip. Yes, you do go through a bit of a red-light district on the way to the train station, but it was fine even at night. There are cabs at the train station for those who don't want to rough it that much.

Public Areas - when the weather was nice, you could sit out on the courtyard, which was quite pleasant.

Breakfast - very good, extensive hours for serving, especially on the weekends.

General thoughts - if you are looking for a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons type of experience, you are likely to be disappointed, but if you like smaller hotels with good personal service and comfortable rooms, you will be delighted. All 3 couples in our group liked this hotel the best of all that we stayed in during our trip.

Room Tip: Rooms facing on the courtyard are quieter than those on the street, especially on the weekends.
