“Comfortable, central and welcoming.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

The first thing we saw on entering the reception area of the hotel was a small blackboard with a welcome message to all the guests expected that day, each one individually named.. A nice touch, which set the tone of our visit. Christine ,the owner, was a lovely lady and clearly takes great pride in the running of the place. The décor was distinctive with lots of cherubs, hearts and flowers ,unusual but fun, and it just made you want to smile. Always a good thing on holiday . Breakfast was a good spread with everything from meat to chocolate cake to boiled eggs complete with smiley faces. It was very near the station and a 10 minute walk from the city centre. A number of reviewers have mentioned street noise, but with the window closed we heard nothing. If you like somewhere that’s a little bit different , a little bit quirky and very welcoming then this is the place for you.

As most reviewers have stated, the short walk from train station is through a seedy (but safe) "adult themed" area. The relatively short walk to the tourist areas were much cleaner and "family friendly".

The accommodations were comfortable, though the decor were a little too "hearts and cupids" for my taste. Breakfast was wonderful!

I was really annoyed that upon arrival there was a sign on the counter that said we could not pay with a credit card. I had to push back on this and show my reservation before I was told that they would allow me to pay by credit card.

Room Tip: The elevator does not go to the 6th floor, so request 4th or 5th floor if stairs are a problem.

If you can get over walking past a few seedy looking places, this "boutique" hotel is great. The area it is located in has a few casinos (not named Hotel Monaco for nothing) around it, but its guests don't appear to be the type visiting casinos. My daughter (age 20) and I found the accommodations good. The bathroom is tiny but the rooms cheerful and locally inspired. The hotel is on the 5th floor of a non-descript building; elevators are available. The staff is friendly and their breakfasts superb. You are just 5 minutes from Munich's Central Train Station.

Wonderful, friendly staff, and Christine in particular is most helpful, giving a quick overview of the places to visit and how they can be reached, as well as helping me to print an e-ticket which I needed for a concert. I'm sure any other reasonable request will be looked into cheerfully too!
The breakfast, while a little pricey (though not more so than other hotels), is tasty and the spread is good.
I am satisfied with the comfort and cleanliness of the room. The corridors and the walls are very nicely decorated too -- a very nice homely touch.

However, I wished the room was more sound-proofed and that the door of each room has a good spring --- I didn't get very restful sleep because of the slamming doors by guests and even cleaning staff; when they talk too, the noise comes through the doors and walls fairly loudly.

Chose this for its convenient location but did not like the surrounding area at all when we first arrived - seemed v seedy area but it isn't and it's safe to walk alone even late at night. We didn't need to buy a single tram ticket as we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to be, it took us abut 7 mins to Marienplatz and 2 to main railway station. We hired bikes cheaply, 6 euros for two hours, from Radius by platform 32, and he gave us a map with a brilliant route through the Englische Garten and along the river. Room v cosy and clean. It didn't bother us but if you were a light sleeper you would be woken up by people using the shared bathroom (right next to our room) late at night and early in the morning. Just ask for a room further away if it would bother you. Staff absolutely lovely and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms are up on the 5th or 6th floor but there's a lift, decide if you want convenience of...

Wonderful place to stay in Munich! It felt very welcoming and homey. It's got a pink and red theme, so be prepared for hearts and cherubs. "Adorable" might be a good word to use. It all makes perfect sense once you meet Christine, who fits in with this theme very well.
The room was clean and decently sized (and filled with flowers and teddy bears...) Breakfast was optional, and was a decent spread- not the magnificent feast I was expecting, but certainly a pleasant experience.
As others have mentioned, the location is near the train station. There are lots of inexpensive hotels like this in the area... there are also strip clubs and the like, but I never felt unsafe. Short 10-min walk to Marienplatz. I'd consider it a convenient location for sightseeing, or for catching a tour bus for a day trip or a train to your next destination.

We are happily situated at Hotel Monaco: kind staff, cozy rooms, convenient location near train & budget-friendly. We stayed four nights, with our two teenagers in a separate room, and have appreciated our time here. Great breakfast each day and easy walking distance to the town center or train for side trips to Dachau or King Ludwig's castles.
