“nice hotel, good location”
Reviewed 12 October 2011

It's a very nice hotel just in the very center of Munich. Affordable price and very good breakfast. I stayed there twice and I would stay more, for sure.

Stayed here for 3 nights in early September. What a lovely place! Enjoyed a standard double room which was very spacious, clean, comfy and huge bed, well sized bathroom and offered a pleasant view of surrounding buildings from the window.
Staff were so great. Friendly, fun, down-to-earth, helpful, professional – no faulting them.
Loved the breakfast, great selection. Fresh, very clean. Fruits, breads galore, cold meats and cheese, fruit juices, salad choices. I was very pleased.
It’s just around the corner from a huge brewery and the Hard Rock.
We drove in Munich and the locals were very gracious and polite. Parked at the hotel for 20 Euros per night.
It’s a charming hotel and given it has quite a large number of rooms, there is a definite warmth and inviting air about the place. It was great and I would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: The standard double is plenty of room for two. You'll never be in eachother's way.

We stayed at the Platzl hotel Sept 25-28, 2011. Oktoberfest.

The location of the Platzl really couldn't be any better in my opinion. You are a short walk to the subway, Marianplatz - Glockenspiel, Haufbrau House is around the corner, tourist shops, etc.

The service is superb. Breakfast is included and the the wait staff are extremely pleasant and provide excellent service. There is a very wide variety of items and the breakfast is open from 6:30 am to 11:00, so you have a huge window to grab a bite to eat. We also sent post cards home and the front desk staff took care of the stamps and mailed the cards for us.

The rooms are very nice and comfortable. There must be a lot of complaints about the size of the room from americans because the bellman commented that their rooms are smaller than many americans expect - he tells me this as wee are walking to our room. Basically, he was trying to lower our expectations. These rooms are NOT small and we purchased the cheapest rooms available. They are a reasonable and most sufficiently sized, especially considering we are in a city and in Europe where rooms tend to be smaller than we have in the USA. I would suspect that those who have complained on this board haven't likely stayed in NYC or any other major city in the US. This room was bigger than our room in Prague and about the same size as our room in London where the price was $800 per night.

Noise - not a problem. We were in town for Oktoberfest so the HB house was jammed and the noise in our room was not bad at all. The hotel staff opened our windows daily (they open 2 ways - from the top and from the side). At first I thought, uh oh, the nose is pretty loud, but then I realized the window was cracked open at the top and once closed the sound was gone. Not to mention the HB house closes at 11pm, so i don't really get the issue around noise that I saw comments about anyway. That said, you are in a city, so sleeping at night with the windows open is going to be noisier than in the suburbs.

Cons: The hair dryer is built in and would overheat regularly, but they brought up another one for my wife. The hotel shut down the air-conditioning at night and our room was warm, it was cool outside, but it was to noisy for my wife to sleep with the window open (city noise mainly - distant sirens, etc). The hotel does not have bars of soap (actually, they might, but we didn't ask) - they have a shampoo/bodywash that is in the shower, but we didn't care for it.

Pros: Location. Staff - all speak english, very helpful. Rooms - very nice and good size.

I would stay here again on my next trip to Munich.

Near Hofbrauhaus and Hard Rock. Walking distance to Marienplatz and all of the shopping. Room did not have free wifi, but Starbucks around the corner does.

This hotel is just perfectly located, even if you arrive by car, it's easy accessable and you have a basement garage available for 19 EUR per day.
In spite of the fact that our room was situated directly oposite the Hofbräuhaus and above the Hardrock Cafe, we didn't hear any noise from outside (windows closed).

everything was great during our stay. the location could not be better... it's stumbling distance from the hofbrauhaus and just a few blocks from marienplatz. the staff was very courteous and helped us figure out logistics for a day trip to neuschwanstein castle. the breakfast is excellent. the rooms were very clean. the only thing we were left wanting for was wi-fi in our room. if they offered fee free in-room wi-fi, i'd give it 5 stars.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
You place great importance on quality and want to be right in the middle of Munich's city life? Then Platzl Hotel Munich and its culinary offerings are the address for you. This traditional four-star Superior Hotel and its two popular restaurants - the Pfistermuhle and Wirtshaus Ayingers - are located in the heart of Munich's old city, right beside the famous Hofbrauhaus. And just a short walk from the Marienplatz, the Bavarian State Opera, Maximilianstrasse and Viktualienmarkt. The Inselkammer family and its team combine Bavarian hospitality and traditional style elements with a modern lifestyle and state-of-the-art technology. It begins with a warm welcome in the foyer, continues through the 167 guest rooms and only ends when you leave Munich through the city's historic quarter. This combination of tradition and modernity also creates the ideal setting for private celebrations such as birthdays or weddings, but also conferences and seminars. Your visit should also include a taste of the culinary offerings at our two restaurants - because gastronomy has a long tradition at the Platzl. As early as the beginning of the last century, the Platzl stage was graced not just by cabaret giants such as Karl Valentin. Good Bavarian food also made repeat appearances, being served to guests before and after the performances. Today, the Pfistermuhle is synonymous with sophisticated Bavarian cuisine - at Munich's only preserved city mill. Since the year 2000, people from Munich and elsewhere have enjoyed the hearty regional dishes at Wirtshaus Ayingers, which is next door, while the charming stores and eateries in the "Platzlgassen" add to the lively atmosphere in the Platzl. Our outside bar the Platzl Karree presents a unique bar concept in Munich's old town. Because of the stylish and yet down-to-earth design the fine balancing act between tradition and modernity with the Platzl Karree is perfectly realized. The dominating colors anthracite with burgundy and the dark parquet flooring create a bar to relax and enjoy. In the new Josefa Bar & Kaffee we serve locally produced unique spirits, cool beverages with herbs freshly from the Viktualien market and own cocktail creations. ... more   less
