Very nice hotel with an excellent service and comfort. Buffet for breakfast is excellent with various choice. Very good service from all the staff.
Perfectly situated in the center of Munich, close to the Underground or S-Bahn.
It is highly recommended.

The Platzl is certainly not inexpensive, but only after arriving did we realize that its location is priceless. Just a short walk around the corner to Marienplatz, many other important sites, and the S-bahn subway to the airport. We asked for a superior room, and apparently that gets you a quieter room facing the courtyard (important since some of the exterior rooms are near the infamous HofBrauhaus beerhall which can attract some noise into the night). Personally, I found the hotel room pretty small and spartan for the rate we were paying...but we treated well, the breakfast was unusually good, the restos associated with the hotel -- the Pfistermuhle and even the Ayinger pub -- didn't disappoint. And, the location, let me repeat, is something not to overlook.

Fantastic location just 4 minutes walk from Marienplatz and the station with direct trains (S1 & S8) to the airport, also just round the corner from the Hofbräuhaus and Hard Rock Cafe.
My room on the 5th floor was very comfortable and well equipped and with the window shut you could not hear a sound and with the window open you could hear the famous Glockenspiel and various other church bells ringing. The bed was very comfortable, air conditioning worked well and there was a fairly well stocked mini-bar and a safe in the room.
Breakfast was brilliant with a huge choice of hot and cold foods and is served from 6.30 till 11.00.
The staff were all very friendly, profesional and helpfull and spoke very good English, the only negative point about my stay in Munich is the amount of weight I have put on with all the good food and beer.

We have visited Munich many times and stayed in several good hotels. This time, on our way home from the Dolomites, we chose the Platzl for its location in the centre of the Old Town near the market and Marienplatz. Also it has many excellent reviews on Booking and Tripadvisor! We paid a little bit more for a quiet room overlooking the courtyard which was well worth it for the two nights we stayed. The bedroom was comfortable with good quality beds and bedding. The bathroom is efficient and functional. Breakfast is excellent but when the main room is busy, there is an overflow room some distance away. This entails a lot of walking too and fro, collecting food and drink items, and would be very tricky for less mobile guests. On a positive note, the long walks involved will keep the weight down as you enjoy the lovely food on offer! Breakfast is served from 6.30am until 11.00am giving tremendous flexibility to travelers.

Room Tip: Pay a little more and get a courtyard room for quietness.

Dear Brandon, thank you very much for your kind feedback! The way, you have written about our breakfast and it's situation is really a new aspect. Our fitness-room is in the 5th floor - but, reading your report, we are reflecting to close it. Breakfastroom will be fitnessroom. What do you think about it? But the main thing for us is, that you feel good in our house! Best regards - Heiko Buchta and team

Very nice hotel located in the historical center close to Marienplatz and Tal but at the same time in a quite and cosy corner. We always stay here when visiting Munich. Personnel is very friendly and attentive. Varied breakfast with bio comb-honey, fruits, traditional yogurts, omelets, bacon, etc. Nice and comfortable rooms. Recreation area. We really like it and will choose it again next time.

I'd been to Munich before and stayed at a large chai hotel across the street from the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). It proved to be disappointing, not the least of which was the dirty street area right outside because of the proximity to the station. I read some good reviews of the Platzl and researched their website as well as TripAdvisor. I was not disappointed.

The hotel staff were extremely courteous and helpful with city maps and transportation maps. The location is within the altstadt (old city) adjacent to the famous Hofbrauhaus, but also very close to the Marienplatz with its train stations and Glockenspiel, and the open air Viktualienmarkt with it's many merchants. It is very easy to get to the main station from Marienplatz using the S-Bahn, and the Marienplatz is only a 2 minute walk from the hotel. We arrived by train from Zurich, took the S-Bahn to Marienplatz, and hoofed it to the hotel from there even dragging baggage. Easy - peasy. And, to top it off, they are across the street from a Augustiner restaurant (my most favorite beer of all).

The room was very large and comfortable with everything you need. We booked a large deluxe with king bed - very quiet and overlooking a courtyard. Large sitting area, nice TV, large closet. Sofa was a fold-out bed but did not need that. Free Wi-Fi and worked well.

Breakfast was a real highlight. Very extensive, tastes great, and is a great start to the day. I highly recommend getting a room inclusive of breakfast. We ate at the dinner restaurant also, and the food there was fresh, juicy, and tasty. Had their local Ayinger beer, and it was great. Did not have a chance to try their tavern-style restaurant, but I'll do that when I go back (and I will).

Overall, I would definitely stay here again. They have a great location and give wonderful service. Very friendly folks - characteristic of Bavarian culture.

One caveat: their in-room services book states that they will change foreign currency. When I asked to change some Swiss Francs to Euros, They denied the ability to do that. Update your info book folks!

As others have said, the Platzl enjoys a great location. We stayed for five nights in the Bavaria Suite in July while attending the Munich Opera Festival. The opera house and various other sites are within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Room was very comfortable and consisted of a bedroom and a sitting room. Bathroom had a fairly large shower (no tub). There was absolutely no noise from outside.

Air conditioning worked well and we enjoyed excellent housekeeping.

Staff very helpful; breakfast buffet selection is outstanding with numerous hot and cold items.

Numerous restaurants nearby.

Very highly recommend.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
You place great importance on quality and want to be right in the middle of Munich's city life? Then Platzl Hotel Munich and its culinary offerings are the address for you. This traditional four-star Superior Hotel and its two popular restaurants - the Pfistermuhle and Wirtshaus Ayingers - are located in the heart of Munich's old city, right beside the famous Hofbrauhaus. And just a short walk from the Marienplatz, the Bavarian State Opera, Maximilianstrasse and Viktualienmarkt. The Inselkammer family and its team combine Bavarian hospitality and traditional style elements with a modern lifestyle and state-of-the-art technology. It begins with a warm welcome in the foyer, continues through the 167 guest rooms and only ends when you leave Munich through the city's historic quarter. This combination of tradition and modernity also creates the ideal setting for private celebrations such as birthdays or weddings, but also conferences and seminars. Your visit should also include a taste of the culinary offerings at our two restaurants - because gastronomy has a long tradition at the Platzl. As early as the beginning of the last century, the Platzl stage was graced not just by cabaret giants such as Karl Valentin. Good Bavarian food also made repeat appearances, being served to guests before and after the performances. Today, the Pfistermuhle is synonymous with sophisticated Bavarian cuisine - at Munich's only preserved city mill. Since the year 2000, people from Munich and elsewhere have enjoyed the hearty regional dishes at Wirtshaus Ayingers, which is next door, while the charming stores and eateries in the "Platzlgassen" add to the lively atmosphere in the Platzl. Our outside bar the Platzl Karree presents a unique bar concept in Munich's old town. Because of the stylish and yet down-to-earth design the fine balancing act between tradition and modernity with the Platzl Karree is perfectly realized. The dominating colors anthracite with burgundy and the dark parquet flooring create a bar to relax and enjoy. In the new Josefa Bar & Kaffee we serve locally produced unique spirits, cool beverages with herbs freshly from the Viktualien market and own cocktail creations. ... more   less
