“A good base for Oktoberfest, and close to the Central Train Station”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

Close to the Main Train station and walking distance from Oktoberfest

I really don't know why the other people are complaining. We had a really good experience at Hotel Alfa. The desk clerks were very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The rooms were clean, the lift worked, although we mostly used the stairs. Our room faced the back courtyard and we could open the windows. Maybe the other reviewers had nasal problems, we are both non-smokers and there were no bad smells. The room and the lobby smelled fine.

Some background: We searched specifically for a place to stay that was affordable and clean, because we only really needed a place to sleep while joining friends at the Oktoberfest. It is within walking distance to and the route is safe, even when walking back at night. Hotel Alfa is also close to most fun pub in Munich i.e. Cafe bar Shakespeare.

There are several restaurants within walking distance. I can't comment on the meals since we didn't wake up early enough for breakfast and were out during lunch and Supper. The dining room looked pleasant though. Since you can't see the street on Google maps, I will just mention it. It is a back street and is quiet, clean and safe.

The only thing good about this hotel is it's location, 200m from Munich hauptbahnhoff.
They are basic, miserable and their room smells.

Things that went wrong:
- miserable. They charge €20 to give you the remote to use air-conditioning. Otherwise there was no heating or anything else. That was their winter of 0 degrees. Staff said he didn't feel cold, and advised to open the window if we felt hot. They charge €4/hour or €9/day to use their not-so-reliable internet.
- basic. A sliding door is all you get as the bathroom door. You can see the person inside through the big gap when you walk past. Bed wasn't very comfortable for me. They do offer basic breakfast, but the only hot item is scrambled eggs, every day the same.
- bad smell. Our room had a very heavy unpleasant bad smell. I had to open the window and door for a few minutes every time we got back.

I would not consider staying there again next time.

Not worth the price....

- room smell terribly. called front desk to confirm it's a non-smoking room, however i smell smoke. no change room. room is old, sheets looks very old. no draws. bathroom is new and conformtable.

- key is hard to use. need to lock from inside too. no safe in the room.

- wifi costs 3 euro per 30 minutes. can u believe it?

- receipists rarely smile. unreluntent to offer information. i guess it's a german think. not so welcoming.

good note:
minutes away from train station
Nice little breakfast included

If you want a central hotel near Central station and well-placed for oktoberfest, this is a good choice. Rooms are small and basic and breakfast ok but it's reasonable value.
Ten minute walk to central munich and fifteen to theresenwiese.

A great place for a city break. near the station and walking distance of all the sites. very clean and warm. Good breakfast and helpful staff. Staff were able to recommend good places to eat. The breakfast room was warm and inviting though could have done with more staff at busy times. Rooms small but very well lit

Rooms are tiny and the bathrooms are even smaller. Most of the rooms are non smoking, but they all have this cigarette smoke smell, which is awful. I stayed there for 4 times during ISPO and it was always the same. Breakfast is always the same and not much to choose from.

This was the second hotel we stayed at in Munich (some confusion on travel plans had us switch half way through the trip...) and it was an enjoyable experience. Hotel Alfa is VERY close to the main train-station making it very easy to get to any location in Munich. The hotel was clean and quiet for our stay and the breakfast was very good as well. Munich hotels are expensive so make sure you try to book early! I feel like we overpaid a bit for this hotel but we also booked it very late, and it was less than the posted price of a double room. Munich hotels are just expensive, especially in a great area like this. Also, as an American, you'll notice rooms/bathrooms are much smaller than you're used to but that's just the way it is.

The front-desk service was excellent too, we probably spoke to three of the staff members over our 4 night stay and they were all very friendly and helpful. If you feel like you MUST stay close to the main station this hotel is perfect, but I would recommend searching around for a hotel close to ANY U-Bahn/S-Bahn stop because as long as you're close to a stop you can get anywhere in Munich very quickly.
