We treated ourselves to one blow-out night in the Mandarin in late December 2009 and, despite denting the pocket, it was worth every penny. The hotel is beautiful, spotless, tasteful and welcoming and the staff speak perfect English and go out of thier way to provide faultless service. I particularly recommend the view from the roof (the pool looks good, but not in December!) and the cocktails!

This place is a joy to stay at. Well located; magnificent rooms; superb service; and really one for the discerning guest. We were struck by the civility, attention to detail and the service we received. All were faultless.

I stayed at MO Munich the 24th to the 25th December 2009 with my husband. We wanted to have a short Christmas break with good food and champagne and to see the famous Christmas market in Marienplatz, which is a very short walk away. I had passed by Munich many times, but I had never actually stayed there. I'm a big fan of MO Singapore, where I have stayed twice during the past year (and will be staying again this spring), so it was easy to choose the hotel.

I had booked a normal room, but we were upgraded to (I think) an excecutive room. The room was very nice and large with a sitting area and a glass cabinet with oriental objects. The colours look much nicer live than on the web site. The bathroom was wonderful with a separate shower cubicle and a separate toilet. The dressing room was small, but functional. My only complaint about the hotel would be that the safety deposit box was really high, fortunately I had my husband with me!

The public areas were really nice and beautifully decorated for Christmas with candles and pointsettias. In the lobby, which was decorated by Steiffl, a German toy maker, there was an enormous Christmas tree and unbelievable real size stuffed animals: deer and bears. We got some great pictures! The lobby bar is cosy and the service excellent as it's is all over the hotel. You can have light dishes here as well.

The hight point was the Christmas Eve dinner in the Michelin starred Mark's restaurant. What can I say, the food was good, the service impeccable and the athmosphere nice and christmassy. I had preordered a lacto-vegetarian meal for myself, everything worked as expected. A lovely evening!

On Christmas day we had a long walk around the old town and the nearby shopping streets.

We loved both the MO and Munich, and we certainly wish to return next Christmas!

In short - yes stay at this hotel over others like the Ritz. It really is a lovely property which only just falls short of MO Asia standards by way of the staff. Apart from the door men, the GM and front desk staff just didnt quite 'get' the MO going the extra mile service level. But maybe thats a German thing?
Get a room on a high floor. Suite if you can afford it. We got a smelly bathroom but they moved us after 1 night which was good.
Overall yes i would stay here again, if anything because its next to the beer house ;)

My husband & I and our three sons (late-teen, early 20s) spent Xmas week in Munich at the Mandarin Oriental and loved it. It was beautifully decorated for Xmas and the location was perfect, w/in easy walking distance to the Marienplatz, Maxmillianstrasse and beyond. The staff was wonderful, very helpful w/restaurant suggestions and train arrangements to Neuschwanstein, etc. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable and very quiet. They have a wonderful breakfast buffet, the bar menu is delicious as are their room-service sliders :) Mark's, the featured restaurant is exquisite. It was a terrific experience and though pricey, we'd highly recommend this hotel.

Our stay here was impeccable. The hotel was in an amazing location, we had a huge suite, which was elegant and had great views of Munich. The restaurant was fabulous, and the staff was wonderful. The bathrooms were fabulous with flat screen TVs and rain shower heads. Located on a block with great shopping -- Cartier, Hermes, etc. Had an amazing stay and would definitely return.

My wife had business in Munich but we also had time for site seeing. This hotel is charming and high end - what you would expect from a five star. But what distinguishes it from other 5 stars is the service. In particular, they have an outstanding concierge who is knowledgeable, polite and patient. The doormen, the bellmen are all great guys, who want to show you what good service is. All of this assistence comes with a warmth and friendliness that can't be faked.
