The hotel is right next to the English Garden in Schwabing, which is a cool, funky neighborhood. You must take the U-Bahn to get downtown, and to get to the train station or air terminal, you must transfer to the S-Bahn. Normally, that would drive me a little crazy, but it's literally next to the Garden, and walking through it to wind down from the day was fantastic. I stayed in the apartments, not the main house, and I was a little concerned about that, but frankly, the room was perfect with a refrigerator to keep stuff in. My only criticism would be the 4.50 euro breakfast buffet, which was definitely not worth it. You can walk 5 minutes into Schwabing and get much more food for less money. Also, they charge for internet, which I personally think is unconscionable in 2010. Internet should just come with the hotel.

This is a charming hotel next to the Englische Garten, the main park in Munich. The trick is to stay in the main building, which is pre war and has very nice spacious rooms. There is a second building down the street, where overflow guests are accomodated. That building is more modern but lacks ambience. The hotel serves a delicious full breakfast in the morning. I have stayed there several times and always enjoyed it.

This was a wonderful Inn for my short stay in Munich for Oktoberfest 2009. My room (#15) was clean, and had a sink , TV, telephone and comfortable beds, but was small. The guests were mixed between American and Germans, and I heard that some other rooms were much larger.
I did not have a private bath but never had to wait or had any trouble with shared bathroom (same floor) or the shower (basement). They provided bathrobes, but honestly I went dressed down to the basement shower as the route was directly through the main entrance / dining area. The breakfast buffet was excellent.
The building has some history and is preserved according to former owner's wishes, the family was apparently a significant contractor in Munich, so this was a wonderful home that is now an Inn. The location is perfect for access to the Englisher Garten, with the See Haus just a short walk away. Across the street there is a wonderful Bavarian restaurant great for lunch & dinner, it's also considered a small 'Beer Garden' if you are inclined.
The walk to the Ubahn (subway) is very pleasant with many small shops and coffee shops along the way, it's under a 10 min walk, and very safe even late at night. There are restaurants, bars and even a real 'underground' club in the area as well.
This area is very quiet, but there are churchbells nearby. I always bring eyeshades and earplugs on a trip, but did not need to use them.

Just a gem !

The hotel is located on the edge of Englischer Garten. The U-bahn is a 7-minute walk from the hotel and the Marienplatz is only 4 stops away. The English-speaking staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was excellent. We stayed in room #10 which was a large room with many windows furnished nicely with some antiques. The bed was comfortable. The private bath was spacious with a deep bath tub. While the bathroom appeared spotlessly clean, there was a faint odor of urine in the toilet. The thing we liked best was the staff and the breakfast. We disliked the faint odor in the bathroom and thought the rates were a bit high.

We always stay in the old part of hotels even if they have newer rooms, you can stay at a Marriott or 4 Seasons anywhere in the US, Europe seems to me to be about the history and culture. We had a huge room, our own bath and there is a fantastic pub that serves good German food just across the street. The Park next door is beautiful. Only thing we will change next time - should have taken a cab from the train station, it was quite a hike to the hotel.

We were initially nervous about staying here, as it was explained to us that we would not have our own WC and that we would need to descend two levels to use the showering facilities, but our concerns were immediately assuaged when we saw the hotel. We travelled to Munich by ICE train, so we arrived at the Hauptbahnhof and needed to take two trains (S-Bahn to MarienPlatz and then U-Bahn to Muenchen Freiheit), and then walked the few blocks to the hotel. When we arounded the corner and saw the place, we were greatly pleased. It is positioned just on the southwestern edge of the Englischer Garten, and in fact, you can see the faint lights of the beer garden next to the Kleinhesseloher Lake; this beer garden is even nicer than the Chienasischer Turm, which is the most visited. There is also a very nice German restaurant immediately across the street from the hotel, which has excellent food but only takes cash. Our check-in went without hitch, and our room was small but quite nice and clean. The bedding was amazingly comfortable. There was only a basin with mirror in the room, but there was a t.v. and a small mini-bar. There was a balcony you can step out onto right next to our room. The WC was down the hall. The showering facilities are fine, two flights down but a full bathroom with shower, water pressure was fine and it was quite comfortable to use with the provided robes. The breakfast was additional, 9.50 Euros, which we partook of the first morning. It was nice, but we decided on subsequent mornings to go into town where we found a very nice breakfast at the Cafe Muenchner Freiheit which was a tad less expensive and provided a more fulfilling experience. The staff is wonderful and responsive, and we enjoyed this stay immensely. Getting to the airport is a little tricky if you are to rely on trains, as we did. We had to be there quite early, so we ended up leaving when it was still dark and foggy. We took the U-Bahn back to Marienplatz, and then the S-Bahn to the airport which made many stops. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed in one of the apartments just down the street from the actual guest house. We were there during Oktoberfest so there weren't many other options. The room was ok but not very comfortable. I wouldn't stay in apartment complex again...
