“quality and comfort for the budget traveler”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2009

We ahve been to Munich 3 times in the past 12 years and each time we have stayed at the Pension Theresia Regina. the rooms are clean and comfotable. Although no television on site. Some of the staff are outstanding and helpful, others have a very uncaring attitude, but are not rude. The breakfast is great, and the ambience is very old-world. We recomment the Hotel Pension Theresia to anyone on a budget who wants a hotel with character and a great location.

This hotel was the only place that was reasonably priced for the Oktoberfest week. The room was a double with shared bath. Baths were very clean and recently updated. Rooms were older but clean and had good light. TV was very small, no English channels. No Wifi at all. Breakfast was included but I'm not a big breakfast person so it was only so-so (no hot items). They don;t take CCs so I had to wire money to hold the room which was very scary!

We spent most of our time in the city, so all we really needed was a place to sleep. This place was clean, comfortable and easy to get to; all for a great price. I would definitely stay here again if I were in town.

We stayed at Pension Theresia for two nights during oktoberfest. The place was easy to find, right next to the subway station. First floor is the smoking area, Second floor is the check in, then third floor and above are the bedrooms. Be warned, the staircase is very dark during the night there's no lights at all. Prior to the stay we had to submit a deposit which we got into some problems where the owner said we were missing 8 euros from our transaction. I went to the bank and ensure it was exact 150 euros. Upon arrival, I brought out my bank statement but the owner insisted that we were short, we did not want to argue further decided to pay the 8 euros and leave it at that. The bedroom was ok, typical hostels - single beds next to each other, shared washrooms. It was quite clean, although sometimes it was noisy during the night from other guests next to us (the walls were very thin). The staff are very friendly but don't speak much English. Breakfast was very well served: bread, milk, coffee, orange juice, deli, cereal etc. Overall the stay was average, the oktoberfest and tourist sites kept us busy everyday anyhow.

The information given in the former review is still valid.

For one person with a bath in the corridor the price was
33 Euros, since I stayed there for 5 nights. Everything
was kept very, very clean & the staff was friendly & efficient.
The walk from the central station & the central pedestrian area
takes about 25 mins, just past the Lenbach villa.
The entrance is very humble, the reception is on the 2nd floor.

There is a LIDL supermarket literally next door, and a better PLUS
near the Theresienstrasse U-Bahn station nearby,
which is an interesting area with several restaurants and cafes
& a very inexpensive Kebab a little bit to the north of the station.
Try to make a walk even further to the north & the Schwabing district
with many old villas etc., mentioned in the Lonely Planet Guide. For
Bavarian food, I enjoyed Lamm´s next to Sendlinger Tor
and I found the Hofbräuhaus too commercialized.

Breakfast was a budget-like buffet and could be developed
further with higher quality, but it was OK for the price, since Munich tends to be
more expensive than, say, Berlin. It was served from 7 till 10.
The breakfast area was small & the hotel can probably get crowded during high season. There wasn´t any internet service. There wasn´t any TVs either, which is actually a blessing.

  • Liked — The value, the friendly atmosphere
  • Disliked — No severe criticism, but the breakfast could be improved with, say, better bread & meat

We stayed here for four days while attending a conference at the University. The room was large, comfortable & clean. The decor was dated & the mattresses were a bit soft - but small complaints for the good value. For our room (double, with sink only - shower & toilet just outside) we paid 48 euros per night for two people (breakfast included).

They don't allow smoking in the rooms which was wonderful. We stayed over a weekend & found it very quiet, despite being close to the university. The breakfast was average - a typical european continental (breads, cakes, sandwich meat, cheese, yogurt, cereal, tea/coffee, juice, fruit).

You HAVE to check in before 9pm - unless you contact them & make other arrangements - there is no one to man the reception desk after nine - so if you get locked out - you have to wait until the morning. You can get a second key, if you give a 50euro deposit. But we always carried our key - so it was never a problem.

We didn't have a car - so I can't comment on parking (didn't see any). It was about a 5-6min walk to the neareast U-bahn station (Theresienstrasse on U2 - which was only 2 stops from the main railway station).

There are several great & inexpensive restaurants nearby - an Italian on right on the corner & a Thai restaurant just past that one - we ate at both & was happy wih the food & price!)

There wasn't any internet directly from the pension - but we were able to snag someone's wireless. There are phones in the rooms too.

  • Liked — Value & cleanliness
  • Disliked — Time restrictions on check-in
