“Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2012

Going to try something a little different this time, we stayed at a number of places this trip and we will note our previous and next hotel at the bottom of each review. That will hopefully give you a sense of our experience and a comparison of the places we stayed. Also we believe that you can give a rating of 5 to a two-star hotel which meets or exceeds what it should deliver, though having said that, it still remains a two star hotel and is in no way a five-star hotel, nor should you expect a five star experience. Also we for the first time we traveled with carry-on luggage only so we had a little more freedom in movement and walking was never a problem for us since we were not dragging huge pieces of luggage around.

So the Uhland is a really nice hotel that is close to the train station (about a 10 minute walk). It’s in a charming old-style building. We had a nice room on the main floor with a high ceiling. The room was well appointed with quality fixtures, a large king-size bed and large double windows that opened. The bed was comfortable and we had a great sleep. The room was simply decorated, clean and the staff provided excellent service. The room was very quiet as it had an extra noise-proof door between the sleeping area and the outside door. Breakfast was served in their breakfast room each morning with staff making and serving great fresh coffee for you. There was an excellent and varied selection of food including boiled eggs, breads, cheeses, meats, cereals, fruit, yogurt, juice, etc. provided.

The price was affordable (108 Euros) given that you are in the heart of Munich and if you do Oktoberfest well that is just across the street. Hotel Uhland was my favorite hotel because they had the best breakfast and the room had everything basic in a comfortable, easy to use arrangement. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed at Hotel Uhland for 3 nights. It was very pleasant. Rooms were large , clean and comfortable. The little extras were much appreciated- like the door between the 'foyer' and bedroom, a balcony, good lighting at bedside, and Water at the reception area. The hotel is relatively close to the main train station( 10 min walk) .Oh, and did I mention price? The room rate was excellent for what you got. I had NO trouble reserving this room , though we were not there during Octoberfest.
There was a staff member at the reception desk 24/7 and they were professional and helpful. Breakfast was included also. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

OK, it was a real pain getting this placed reserved eariler as I reviewed. Now, I've stayed and can say it wasn't really worth all the extra grief in doing so. It IS very close to the Fest grounds, but that became a problem. You can hear noise from rides and the screamers. The Fest closes at 12:00. It would be unbearably noisy at that time. With no central heat or air, you have to have windows open. Big mistake. After the grounds close and you think you can sleep again, the beer tents close. 1:00am for them. Noise again, including inside hotel as the partiers return. Usually not a problem, but this is have a few beers partiers and the noise was horribe some nights. Not dangerous noise, just wake you up annoying noise. We stayed 3 nights but actually arrived in town a night early. Since we couldn't stay at Uhland, we stayed at the Hotel Metropol just a couple of blocks away. It is actually further away from the Fest grounds (good idea), but closer to main train station. The room there was larger, cheaper and the breakfast was HUGE. They also reserved with credit card. We had to pay for excursions from Ulhand with cash also, no card. This is not a big deal, but I hate carrying large amounts of cash. We stayed on 3rd floor at Uhland, and WIFI was spotty at best. Sometimes I stood by door with PAD on floor picking up signal. Rooms are large and breakfast is adequate. I would stay at either again, but for my next Octoberfest trip, Metropol will be the first choice.

Room Tip: Staying for Octoberfest you WILL hear noise on any floor.

It is really good value for money. Our room, no. 18, was pretty spacious and the bed was exceptionally comfry. Gluten free rolls were provided every breakfast which was great. Twenty minutes stroll into Marienplatz. All the staff were very friendly - a real home from home.

Hotel Uhland is a good value if you want the basics and a great location. We are a family of 4, and I just didn't want to pay for 2 separate yet adjoining rooms in a city where we would spend every day sightseeing and no time at the hotel except for sleeping. Hotel Uhland was very good for that. I had asked for a room that was not recently updated with paint and new carpets since my husband is allergic to the fumes they produce, and they gave me exactly what I wanted. That is very important, because a fancy new room does us no good if hubby gets sick with headaches. There were no fume odors. Yes, our room was very plain, and I would say my first impression of our room was not so good because we are used to something nicer. But again, it was what I asked for, and it was clean and comfortable and fit the whole family. Our only problem with it was that the toilet didn't flush very well. The bathroom was a good size, though. The front desk folks were very helpful and nice. The woman who checked us in went outside to the parking lot to help us find a suitable space for our van. They were all very patient with us and our many questions since we were first-timers to Germany. The breakfast room was cute, and the food was good. My only complaint about breakfast has nothing to do with the hotel, but with the other guests. I wish people sick with colds would be more careful at buffets. The hotel is in an excellent location for getting to the city center quickly and easily. Free parking also made it a great choice for us, and it was in a quiet neighborhood. A few reviewers said they walked through a seedy area nearby, but we never saw an area like that. My advice: don't go over there, because you don't need to! We walked directly toward the Oktoberfest grounds to the subway. Easy, and no creepy people around. Just trees, homes and offices. It was nice to return at the end of the day to a quiet location without the street noises of the busy downtown areas. The wifi is slow, but it works.

The hotel is ideally located. It includes free wifi, free breakfast, and free parking. The rooms are clean but really basic. The beds and rooms are no frills. The hotel itself gets the job done but nothing special.

The Uhland is an old Munich mansion refurbished to a modern, comfortable standard located walking distance away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, but close to the U-bahn and the Oktoberfest site.
Comfortable, friendly hotel
