I stayed here for one night in September whilst visiting Munich on a business trip. The hotel was very comfortable, my room was spacious and clean and the bed was really comfortable. The bathroom was also nice, mine had a bath although I know a colleague was in a room with just a shower. The breakfast buffet in the morning was really good, lots of choice, seemed good quality produce as well. The location is also excellent, right in the middle of town a short walk from Marienplatz and everything else the city has to offer. As I said, i stayed here on a business trip and I think this hotel is especially good for this sort of visit, but i'd have been very happy had i stayed here as a tourist too.

This is a good hotel in Munich, especially for a short stay. Negatives: the hotel is a bit hard to find, tucked away on a small side street behind Kaufingerstrasse (walk down Kaufingerstrasse towards Karlsplatz/Stachus and turn left at S. Oliver to find the block it is on), and the area is deserted and seems a bit sketchy at night. Also, the rooms are on the small side, and the views are not great (generally of the buildings across the street). Positives: everything else. The location is perfect--only a few blocks away from the shops on Kaufingerstrasse/Neuhausenstrasse, as well as the famous Frauenkirche, the Neues Rathaus, the Victualienmarkt, and Marienplatz. Also a long walk or a quick S-bahn ride to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) from the Marienplatz U-bahn/S-bahn station. The rooms are equipped with a working television; a phone for both incoming and outgoing calls; a comfy bed; and a desk (as well as an ensuite wc and shower); and there is free WiFi in the rooms if you bring a laptop. The hotel serves a nice breakfast (included with most room packages) in a spacious dining room with cloth-covered tables and nice silverware. The breakfast staff will serve coffee at your table. Breakfast is European-style, with sliced cold meats and cheeses, a selection of yogurts, cereals, fruit, and breads with jam or Nutella. A selection of juices, teas, and mineral waters is also provided. The breakfast room (and pretty much everything else in the hotel) is very clean and well-maintained, which is typical for Germany (unfortunately, hotels are not up to the same standards in Italy, where I stayed the following month). The hotel desk staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a working elevator, which made traveling with suitcases very convenient. I would definitely stay here again. The prices are a bit high, but it's worth it for the convenience and if only staying a few days. The restaurant "Asado Steak" is located next door, and can be reached via a passageway from the hotel, although the dinner prices are very expensive.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room near the elevator.

We stayed at the Mercure Hotels in Munich for four nights during an unusual hot days and the air conditioning was a huge bonus. We wanted to visit the museums and explore the city. According to our aim, the location is gorgeous, in a quiet side street and just less than 5 mins walking away from Marienplatz, the hearth of the old town. It is very convenient to all the sights, the s-bahn and u-bahn stations. We were able to get everywhere easily. Through the automatic shatter on the window, we could have easily dark in our room. The quality and variety of the foods offered as breakfast were excellent. Even all the personal were very friendly, especially the reception officers were always very kind, smiling, helpful and all capable English speakers. As my request, because we had an early arrival, they could have arranged our room before check-in time, although they had said, they couldn’t guarantee an early check in. Although it is an immaculately clean hotel, I hardly believe, how the shared WC was disinfected. It was also awesome that we could loan umbrellas and suit-case weigher and free minibar was a great bonus. Just one thing, the pillows and the quilts were a little bit uncomfortable. The quilts are a little bit thick for that kind of extraordinary heat and the pillows are very soft. No doubt, we will definetly stay here again.

Room Tip: Unless the room is a suit or standard, I think there is no difference. As I discovered, they are all...

This is the third time I've used this hotel and always had an excellent stay. No issues with staff, cleanliness, room comfort, etc. It's what I expected. Location is ideal to Marienplatz centre and underground transport. Room airconditioned so no problems as night during summer stay.

The location is perfect. The hotel is two streets away from Marienplatz and everything is in walking distance. This really is the major selling point for the hotel.

The room is of an average size with very average furniture but the air con was very welcome! As with all Mercure hotels the standard of cleanliness was very, very high and the cleaning staff were the only ones who actually greeted us with any warmth!

That leads naturally onto the bug bear of this review - the staff. With only a couple of exceptions (the late night female receptionist and two of the weekend breakfast staff members) this hotel has the least friendly staff that I have ever encountered in the hospitality industry. I've stayed in Mercure hotels all over Europe and have found the staff to be consistently welcoming and professional if not particularly warm. In this case, however, the staff didn't greet us at all unless prompted, offered no information whatsoever without request and generally made us feel like we were a nuisance. When I arrived, in fact, the sour-faced receptionist who was supposed to check me in was outside the hotel smoking. This is hardly professional, is it? She stomped in behind me making it quite clear that I was disturbing her break and checked me in without the slightest hint of a smile.

The weekday breakfast staff were just as bad. We weren't offered coffee and not one of them said "Guten Morgen" as we were going about checking out the buffet. Thankfully the breakfast selection is pretty good and it was nice that this was included in the price.

All in all I would say that this hotel is worth staying in for the location alone but the literally terrible standard of customer service makes me wonder if the somewhat inflated price is worth paying. We were lucky that we were able to take advantage of a special offer.
