Me and my friends stayed here with PP Travel for the opening weekend of Oktoberfest, our coach arrived at the campsite 3 hours late which was annoying as we'd already been traveling from London since 1pm on Thursday, arriving at midday we expected all the breakfast places closed up and such but our guide on our bus phoned ahead asking if the reps would work on to feed us all..they did and what a friendly bunch they were! The campsite was very nice I did expect worse considering there was a festival going on but staff were always seen picking up cans and stuff..the showers were decent and the food was good from the camp cafe all in all a really happy place to be at, everyone greets you and is smiling from the tour staff to the locals that work on site, the camp is just around the corner from a bus stop get the bus to the tube station then you're smack bang in Munich, a taxi was cheap from the Oktoberfest to the campsite we got to know a lot of people from the site so we just taxi back to camp together ends up costing you like €2 for 7 of you or something. Highly enjoyed myself here will defo be going again to Oktoberfest and this campsite, I'd go as far to say I'd chose it over a hotel because I met some many great people and great atmosphere there not to mention watching very drunk people fall on to their tents instead of into them :)

I have to disagree with the review below as I would really not recommend Pillow. The campsite itself was great - really conveniently located, okay bathroom facilities, etc. Would definitely recommend it as a base for Oktoberfest. However, Pillow Travel, the travel group that we booked with, were pretty poor. They had advertised free shuttle buses to and from Oktoberfest, but it turned out these only ran on weekends, the reps didn't seem to be able to offer any advice about Oktoberfest (and didn't look like they were having a good time themselves), tents were falling apart, the breakfast was disgusting - burnt scrambled egg featured everyday, my friend nearly had to share a tent with someone he didn't know, and there was no sense of being in a group. Other travel groups like Contiki and Busabout seemed to be a lot more organised, and apparently even got their campers VIP access into the beer tents. I didn't expect luxury, but it was a pretty miserable place to stay, and for £95 for 3 nights (when it actually costs them about 5 euros per person per night), it's a bit of a cheek. At least being at Oktoberfest made up for it!

I stayed at the Thalkirchen campsite over the first weekend of Oktoberfest this year with Pillow Travel.

As camping goes, this was luxurious! We were provided with tents with air beds, and there were toilet/shower blocks everywhere!

If you're expecting a silent countryside campsite with no loud drunk people, don't go here. Actually just don't go to Oktoberfest at all! But if you don't mind a bit of noise and you're up for a laugh and meeting some funny characters, I highly recommend!!

I also highly recommend Pillow. They include daytime excursions and breakfast as well!!

We stayed here because we were going to watch a game at the Allianz Arena in Munich. It is in a good location with good transport into the city of Munich. You have to pay for everything such as hot water and showers.A lot of the toilet blocks were closed even during August which was a bit of a pain when going for a shower. We would stay here again because of its location and the river is near by too.We did not eat at the site so cannot comment on the food.We did not book either so there was plenty of room even in August.

Location is worth it, right on the river!
Short walk to train station, this takes you directly into the centre of Munich.
Despite its size the campsite is very quiet.
Reception was very helpful.
Have to pay for use of hot water anytime (shower, washing dishes etc).
Toilet very dirty at night. Need to be cleaned more often due to the amount of people. An irritating point is that they clean all the toilets at the same time!?!?!

We found this place by accident, had only been planning to stop over in munich for one night but decided to stay for 4 as it was so stunning. The campsite is large and busy in august, but well organised- despite this we got given a pitch number and completely left to it which was perfect. It's surrounded by woodlands and a river (where the locals have surfing competitions), and is a short busride from the city centre. It has a shop selling everything, and a cafe which does a mean breakfast (beware of dinner though....) Overall would highly recommend, we are going back this year.

Campingplatz Thalkirchen wasn't the best camping ground we've been to but also not the worst.
I'll list the negatives first so if you need any of these facilities you can cross it off straight away.
Shower's are a ridiculous 1.50 Euro's and aren't even that clean?? There is not wireless internet but if you have a lap top you can plug into Ethernet in the office or use the camp computers for a fee. Tent and camper sites are smaller than average. On the positive side, we had great burgers from the restaurant, they borrow you ping pong bats for the tables for free and thats about it..
Location is ok, a short 5 minute bus ride to the metro then about 4 -5 stops to Munich city centre. Not the greatest experience and very over priced in the off season!! Could be a better atmosphere around Oktoberfest!!

Room Tip: Try to get a spot close to the front office and toilet blocks as the others are dirty or closed!
