Stayed in this hotel in december 2007 for 2 nights in room 36.
We had mentioned at the time of booking that we would arrive late (midnight). The manager (Frau Claus) had left the large gate open and was waiting for us at the reception on the fourth floor.
Check in was quick; we were handed our room keys and we were off. (I liked that)
The hotel is situated in a 130 year old appartment building. the 3rd 4th and 5th floors are the hotel. On the lower floors are offices (MD, lawyer). The entrance to the building is a large wooden gate which is also used by cars to enter the enclosed court yard.
The rooms were clean, the shower and toilet new. The bathroom (which can hardly be named a room) is tiny but clean. The room was big with a nice bed (good mattress).
The hotel has wooden floors so you can sometimes hear the people on the higher floor walk about.
Breakfast was what you can expect in a german hotel. with personal services from the staff. The only snag is when every hotelguest wants to have breakfast at the same time. The breakfast rooms is not very large. it could seat about 16 people at once.
Location of the hotel is very good. With public transport only 2 minutes from Universitaet subway station, wich is only 2 stops from the city center.
Conclusion: As long as the price is lower than the big chains (where I get some airline miles) I will come and stay here again.
