“Friendliest and Most Helpful Owner”
Reviewed 26 May 2008

We stayed at the Siegestor for three nights. It's in an older building, all those around it were bombed during the war, and have been rebuilt. The doors are big, heavy old wooden doors which are tough to open, but there is a very old-world feeling once you step inside. The hotel is on the 4th - 6th floors. The trip up the ancient elevator is an experience. While there is nothing special about the rooms, though they are very neat and clean, the owner, Monika, more than makes up for that. She was extremely friendly, helpful and interested in providing whatever we needed. You would never guess that she's been doing this for awhile. .

The location is very good, not a touristy area, but a student area. A 15-20 minute walk to the center and a quick walk to the Englischer Garden. There are lots of restaurants and shops just on the other side of the monument, going away from the city, again an easy and pleasant walk. The metro is right around the corner. We enjoyed our stay and getting to know Monika and would definitely return.

Stayed in this hotel in december 2007 for 2 nights in room 36.
We had mentioned at the time of booking that we would arrive late (midnight). The manager (Frau Claus) had left the large gate open and was waiting for us at the reception on the fourth floor.
Check in was quick; we were handed our room keys and we were off. (I liked that)
The hotel is situated in a 130 year old appartment building. the 3rd 4th and 5th floors are the hotel. On the lower floors are offices (MD, lawyer). The entrance to the building is a large wooden gate which is also used by cars to enter the enclosed court yard.

The rooms were clean, the shower and toilet new. The bathroom (which can hardly be named a room) is tiny but clean. The room was big with a nice bed (good mattress).
The hotel has wooden floors so you can sometimes hear the people on the higher floor walk about.

Breakfast was what you can expect in a german hotel. with personal services from the staff. The only snag is when every hotelguest wants to have breakfast at the same time. The breakfast rooms is not very large. it could seat about 16 people at once.

Location of the hotel is very good. With public transport only 2 minutes from Universitaet subway station, wich is only 2 stops from the city center.

Conclusion: As long as the price is lower than the big chains (where I get some airline miles) I will come and stay here again.

Our family of 4 (parents and two young adults) stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in August. We had one room with an en-suite bathroom, and the boys had a room with a shared bathroom (sink in room). Our rooms were on the top floor (5th).

The rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. The building is charmingly old (1879) and well maintained. There is an elevator which accomodates 2 people at one time. There is a small TV in each room, with cable. No phone. No internet.

The hotel's central location and proximity to the U-bahn was very convenient. We reached Marienplatz by U-bahn in 15 minutes (2 stops) and could walk to the Englischer Garten. Numerous restaurants line Leopoldstrasse. We always managed to find free parking along Akademiestrasse, although it was pretty full most times.

Breakfasts were plentiful standard German fare, with coffee or hot chocolate, cold cereal, bread, cheese and sausages. Frau Monika was very friendly and had good advice for us.

Minor drawbacks: with the windows open the traffic noise was significant; however, closing the windows basically eliminated the noise. This was a small problem as it could get warm in the room but it didn't affect our sleeping over much. Hot water came and went sometimes, depending on other people's usage.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay there and would recommend this hotel highly.

We stayed at the Siegestor at the beginning of September 2006 and we really can't praise it highly enough. It's a nice location in the University area of the city with easy access to the Englischer Garten and the Schwabing area which has loads of really nice bars and restaurants. Even though the location is peaceful and has a village type feel to it the historic centre is only a couple of U-Bahn stops or a fifteen minute walk away.

The hotel itself is set in an old townhouse (a few flights up, but it has a lift) with loads of character. The rooms are comfortable with a high standard of cleaniness. I think some of the rooms have separate facilities but we had en-suite which I would recommend.

One of the major selling points for the Siegestor however has to be the owner, Monika, who is so helpful and friendly and speaks absolutely perfect English. Breakfast is served from early on until 10am with Monika making sure you have enough to eat! Just perfect, would definitely stay there again when in Munich.

Three friends and I just stayed at The Siegestor this past weekend during the World Cup and we were totally satisfied with the hotel in all respects. The location is great - more of a real neighborhood than the touristy hotel filled area by the train station. It's right next to the U-bahn stop, the Englishergarten, and the bars and cafes of Leopoldstrasse. And the host/owner - Monika - was as nice as could be. I wouldn't have any problem staying here again next time I'm in Munich.
