A nice hotel in a very quiet and pretty residential neighborhood,It has been nicely renovated considering it is on some kind of historical register and they are very limited to the kind of changes they are allowed to make The room was a good size. The breakfast was very good and the dining area was so cute and charming. The Nymphenburg Palace is just down the street and around the corner. Jan at the front desk is so helpful. "You need something, you see me" From anything for your comfort, to making reservations to bus and tram tickets. A really good place to stay at a really good price.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It's only about a 10-15 minute tram ride to the city center and the neighborhood the hotel is in is just lovely. Sebastian and Jan were both very helpful. The rooms are very clean but not spectacular. And that's ok since we barely spent time in them. Loved that it's walking distance to Hirschgarten and the Nymphenburg Palace. Also, no elevator in the hotel so be aware of that. I'd stay here again.

Just returned from a week at the Laimer Hof.
Pros- beautifully quiet location, amongst the suburbs and close to the palace and superb restaurants. Reasonably close to transport. Lovely customer service and not from the owners as they were away. Young people happy to help and lots of smiles.
Cons- bit dated and tired. Our double bed was two singles pushed together that split all night. Walls really thin and could hear others most of the night. Lots of stairs for luggage. Broken shower screen and the smallest we have ever seen. Breaky pretty average. Nothing warm, but perhaps this is the German way.

Overall, we were happy we stayed here. Good value for money, and nice service but shouldn't that be standard everywhere. I think some money should be invested in the rooms. Looking a bit crusty, but maybe that's the edge?

Room Tip: Not near the stairs See if they have a whole double, not two singles pushed together

Loved the neighborhood. It was quiet, beautiful, and a short walk to some good attractions. Taking the bus into center city was easy. Everyone working in the hotel was extremely helpful, breakfast was pleasant and the internet worked. Our room, #26, was large by European standards. It had a double bed, a twin bed, sofa and writing desk. There was a stocked refrigerator. I really appreciated having a magnifying mirror. The hotel only has street parking but it wasn't a problem. There are several nice restaurants nearby. If I return to Munich, this is where I would stay.

We stayed 4 nights at this boutique hotel in May 2013 and it deserves all the accolades it has received on tripadvisor and other travel websites. I’ll split the reviews into a component parts as under:

1) Location: In a quiet, leafy and upmarket neighbourhood of Munich, not very far from the center of town. The Alstadt (town centre) is easily reachable vide trams 16 and 17, the tram stop (Romanplatz) is a few minutes away from the hotel. It takes about 15 minutes of travel to reach the Alstadt. Alternatively, one can also walk to Liam station to access other parts of Munich. Liam station is a 10 min walk. The hotel has some nice restaurants close by. In particular we can recommend “La Brassarie” a French restaurant 2 min away and reasonably priced. Nymphenburg Palace is a 5 min walk and a beautiful place to take long walks etc. There are many supermarkets close to the hotel. Munich’s largest beer garden is close by although we did not go there. Day tickets for travel on public transport are available at the reception. In short: it is a great location.
2) Rooms: We were 2 adults and a teenage son, and we had a triple room on the ground floor. It was large enough and well furnished. One minor gripe: Although the bathroom was moderately sized, the shower cubicle the smallest I have ever showered in, we tended to bang into the partition every time we showered. The beds / duvets / pillows were comfortable and afforded us many a good night’s sleep.
3) Staff: Amongst the friendliest I have ever met. Sebastian Rösch is amongst the friendliest manager I have ever met, ready to answer all your questions, informing you about the weather in Munich, making recommendations on sightseeing, seeking feedback on the rooms / breakfast etc. I did not mention this to him, but Sebastian Rösch looks a bit like the Aussie Hollywood actor Russell Crowe. A very pleasant chap. His other team mates such as Jan Poppe and Alexandra were great too. The hotel has full suite of brochures for all the usual sightseeing places in and around Munich. The check in and check out process was super smooth.
4) Breakfast: delicious continental fare comprising - cold cuts, cheeses, breads, cereals + toppings, juices, boiled eggs, fruits, yoghurt, teas and coffees etc. This is pretty much standard for all hotels we stayed in in Austria / Germany. Usually hot meats such as sausages / bacon etc and eggs made to order are a rarity.

The hotel is very popular and seems to be booked quite heavily. Highly recommended when in Munich.

This is the 18th year we have stayed here. Every time we come back it is such a pleasant experience that I have to share it on this site. My wife and I are treated so well here and everybody knows us by name. It has become our home away from home. Sebastian and Alexandra really have turned this hotel into a top notch place. All of the staff are very friendly and most speak very good English. Even when they are not out front at the reception desk, the staff strives to handle all of our requests with a friendly face and a smile. The service is top notch and the rooms are well maintained and immaculate. The price is definitely acceptable for Munich being the same or better than many lower quality hotels. If you are planning a trip to Munich, be sure to make a reservation for this hotel in advance, because they always have a full house.

I stayed at the Laimer Hof for 3 nights in May. While it is a nice little hotel it does not deserve to be rated no 2 in Munich. It seems to me that many reviewers were overwhelmed by the undoubted courtesy of the manager, Sebastian, and then lost all sense of proportion in giving a rave review for what is a rather basic hotel. I travelled solo and booked a double room which was very small and dreary, a metal bed that squeaked if you looked at it, never mind lie on it, very old furniture and tiny windows which gave a very claustrophobic feeling to the room.
The bathroom/shower was a good size but you only get one hand towel and a bath towel which if you go out early and return to freshen up at lunchtime and use them are of little use later. Old fashioned liquid soap dispensers are provided. The sleep quality was poor, the very quiet area in which the hotel is situated is fine but I was aware of the people in the adjoining room chatting very late at night; thin walls.
My room was on the top floor and the climb does get a bit wearying. Breakfast was fine and no complaints there. On the plus side the gardens of the Nymphenburg are a 5 minute walk and is a very relaxing place to visit and for me was a great bonus. I was fully aware of the out-of-town location and was prepared for the 1/2 hour tram ride to town, but some may find this unsuitable if you like to have a break and return to your room in the middle of a day's sightseeing. Having said that, it is a very up-market area and very quiet and safe at night.
The Laimer Hof will suit many travellers who like a genial host and quaint surroundings but there are many other hotels in Munich which overall would rate higher than it.

Room Tip: If elderly or have bad knees get a ground floor room.
