I went to Munich for a concert in the Residenzwoche and stayed four nights. Being late with booking, I found this address after looking during more than a day or so for a decent and affordable vacancy; my co-reviewers made me decide, when I was near desperate. I payed 79 € a night for a single, which might seem not particularly cheap, but as a new field expert I would say it is more than reasonable. The hotel is very conveniently situated next to the neo-gothic Paulskirche (not a cathedral, by the way), an oasis after the short ten minutes walk from the Hauptbahnhof, through not very pretty and trafficky streets where many of the dreary-looking hotels are that luckily were fully booked. There is an U-Bahn station literally next door, one stop from Hauptbahnhof; with ongoing works there you better walk. Hotel closes ad midnight, but you get a house key. My room was in the dépendance on the courtyard, totally quiet (but possibly it wouldn't be the case with noisy neighbours). It was quite small and basic, looking a bit anonymous like a chain hotel; but very clean, with a good mattress and pillow, good lighting, a writing table, enough room for the luggage, and a good strong hot shower. Everything I needed. Breakfast is from 7 to 10 and the Polish lady who serves it remains friendly all the time. There is coffee à volonté, and scrambled eggs are prepared freshly for you, because otherwise, as she said, they are like "gummi".
The U-Bahn by the way is Theresienswiese, so if you come during but not for the Oktoberfest, you better choose elsewhere.
My only criticism is that breakfast is served on the cover of your predecessors, which I don't find very hygienic. I would advise the manager to use paper pads. And since he is clearly a gentleman who unobtrusively likes his job well-done, I suppose this will be the case next time.
One advice: if you don't want to spoil your stay, avoid the Stadtcafé im Stadtmuseum (also serving the Filmmuseum), which is really nasty.
