We stayed at Hotel am Viktualienmarkt for 2 nights in early June 2013. The hotel's location is ideal: easy to get to from the airport (S1 or S8 train to the Marienplatz stop), nice/quiet neighborhood, & a very short walk to the main market (2 min north), the central square (5 min north), & the Deutches Museum (15 min south). Our court-side room was simple, clean & bright. It was a tad small (not surprising since it was so close to the center), but was quiet & comfortable. The bathroom was large & modern. The bed, a very high density foam, was firm & extremely comfortable. The buffet bkfst was served in a pleasant space on the ground level (it felt like a street level city restaurant) & was good, as well as abundant. All of the staff were very pleasant & friendly. On our 1st night, the lady who checked us in directed us away from the hofbrauhaus for dinner (touristy & expensive), & toward a smallish neighborhood restaurant which we loved (all locals, except for us). After some point in the evening (I think 9PM), you must let yourself into the hotel with a building key since the staff departs around that time. Not a problem unless you lose the key or arrive after 9PM on the 1st night (in the latter case they evidently make some sort of arrangement for you). Munich was a lot of fun, even though it rained the entire time we were there. When we return we'll definitely stay at this hotel.

Despite having great location for walking around the old city, this hotel lacks in room size, noisy at times, and no reception coverage from 9 pm to 7 am.
Rooms are small and not comfortable for socializing in the room. Wifi sporadic in both the room and the lobby. Breakfast typical fare and space is crowed on weekends when hotel is full.
Make sure you request room away from stairs and elevator otherwise you will have very interrupted sleepless night.

Loved this hotel. As my husband already mentioned the location is amazing. So close to everything! It is recently renovated and we found it to be well appointed and very nice. Breakfast was great. Nothing bad to say about the hotel! We loved it!

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights at the end of September/early October during Oktoberfest. We booked this hotel a year in advance and found it to be a very good deal during at 160 euro for a double room during Oktoberfest. It is only a two minute walk to the Viktualienmarkt, which has a lot of shops and food around, and only 5 minute walk to Marienplatz which is right in the heart of Old Town and has a metro stop. This place is a family run hotel that provided great service to us before our trip answering questions and while we were there. The rooms had recently been renovated and were extremely nice!!! The breakfast was very tasty with hard boiled eggs and cold sandwiches and juice. The hotel had free wi-fi, but we were not able to ever get a signal in our room so we just went down to the lobby to use our iPad. The best part about this hotel though is the location and it just can't be beat!!! You aren't on a really busy street but you are only a couple minute walk to the heart of Old Town!!

An after-Oktoberfest business trip. This hotel is centrally located, nice area. Excellent value for money, free WiFi and free breakfast. Room modern, über-clean, nice sized bathroom. No complaints during the eight hours I spent at the hotel. My car was arriving right as the breakfast started and the waitress helped me wrap up a "to-go" bag from the ample buffet.

The hotel was a short walking distance from the Viktualienmarkt and shopping area. There was a bus station at the end of the block, making it extremely convenient to get out of the area when need be. The breakfast had a nice variety of pastries, cheeses, meats, fruits and vegetables, yogurts, etc. Coffee was good too. Everyone that worked here was very helpful and friendly. Quiet rooms.

This hotel is down the street from the Viktualienmarkt. We had a great, updated, contemporary room with clean, linens and comfortable beds. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful especially the one from Turkey. The breakfast provided was probably the best provided in terms of the quality and variety. We had an abundance of seasonal fresh fruit (apricots, strawberries, and blueberries). Yogurt (two flavors), granola, breads and rolls, and of course the usual tasty cheeses and meats. One word of warning, do not lose your hotel key as you may be charged 50 euros, we misplaced ours and did not find it until we returned home, we were not charged for the loss, but they emailed us asking for the key.
