I've visited several Dean and David outlets in Munich, Stuttgart and Berlin and they all pretty much maintain the same quality of food and service. My personal preference goes with their salads as the soup of the week oftentimes ends up being laden with cream or coconut milk and curries, while a nice change, don't really stack up to something you can have at an Indian or Thai take out. Suggest that you don't experiment with their sandwiches/wraps as these are least fresh and creative.
All the salads from the menu deserve a go, with the warm ones particularly nice. It would be an understatement to say Dean & David dress their salads well, which is not objectionable unless you go with the balsamic-maple syrup dressing which is waaaay to sour - an artifact of cheap balsamic not balanced by the maple syrup adequately. Estragon yogurt is light and quite enjoyable. Beef tends to be on the tender side, but few disappointing exceptions have occurred so go with grilled chicken if you want to be on the safe side. The option to assemble your own salad from a rather extensive list of ingredients is really great. The whole wheat bread slices served with the salads, when warm out of the oven, are an enjoyment in their own right.
The main down side is that the place becomes rather hectic at lunch hour so if you can avoid it, best to visit a little later during the workdays if you want a more relaxed meal (and especially if you're after outdoor seating). Even then, however, the service is expedient, staff helpful and quality of the served food constant. Prices run on a little higher end of the scale for casual dining/take out, but the freshness of the ingredients and overall experience makes up for this. Great choice for a healthy lunch.
