I am always surprised how expensive Munich hotels can be. Even very average hotels can ask 200+ Euros during the week. I was looking for a hotel that could provide a full slate of business services, strong internet access, air conditioning, and was away from the Hauptbahnhof, which can often turn into a quasi-red light area with some questionable characters at night and I wanted to pay no more than $150 USD per night inclusive. The Novotel checked all the boxes for me. While there are some tradeoffs involved, particularly room size I was generally pleased with the hotel.
The hotel is located about 15-20 minutes from the main train station by taxi. This helps to avoid some undesirable areas at night. It is set on a peaceful street next to another large hotel and an upmarket car dealership. It is about three blocks from a main boulevard with bars, restaurants, banks, etc. I can't image any safety or security issues there night or day.
Check-in was friendly and efficient and they informed of a special promotion during the World Cup to earn bonus Accor points (thank you!). The bar was large with a nice selection of drinks. Service was always prompt and it was a great spot to watch the football.
My room was very small (even by European standards) but not uncomfortable. Air conditioning was strong and the premium internet (a few euros more) was consistently fast. The mattress was of average quality but I did not have any problems sleeping. For a short stay, the hotel did exactly what I wanted it to do and stay were friendly and professional at all times.
I was disappointed by the size of the bathroom and the terrible water pressure in my room that made it difficult to shower.
Room service was only average. The food was fine (currywurst special) but it arrived cold and the young lady forgot my drinks. Other than that it was a problem free stay.
