“Loud, Expensive and Poor Service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2012

Hotel Mirabell and I got off to a bad start. After checking in, I headed to the only elevator with my bags in tow. I found the elevator doors propped open and the housekeeping staff loading supplies. They saw me waiting and just kept on loading for about 10 more minutes. After they spent about 15 morn minutes unloading on an upper floor, I was finally able to use the elevator. When I finally go to the room and settled in, I called the front desk to get the internet pass-code. I was told that it was too long to tell me over the phone so I needed to back down to the front desk. I was already undressed and trying to relax. She really couldn't be bothered to read 10-15 digits over the phone? The staff here seems to be more concerned with their own comfort and convenience than that of their guests.

The location is not great. The only thing it has going for it is the fact that it is relatively near the train station, but is that really a plus? Ask yourself who hangs out at train stations. Hookers. Hobos.... Munich is full of charming neighborhoods. This is not one of them.

The hotel is on a busy commercial street so it is extremely loud when the windows are open. (There is no air-conditioning, so if you are here in the summer, the window will be open) Sirens, people yelling, trucks all night long.

Room Tip: I would consider staying here only in the winter.

Had stayed here for my business visits. It is the sister Hotel of Hotel Metropol, Rooms are pretty good, but the breakfast cannot be compared to Metropol. Near to central station. A little bit noisy if you take the room facing the main road.

The hotel invites requests for any special needs to be made on booking. I had requested a quiet room with a desk as I was to be in Munich for work. I was given a room on the corner of two busy streets, where roadworks were in progress and police sirens would howl every few hours - and no desk. After four days I was told I had to relocate to another room. This proved highly inconvenient when the room was suddenly no longer available - will spare you the details. All this despite booking several months in advance for a 2-week period.
The other main concern was the internet connection - it only worked sporadically and desk staff were not interested offering only that they were experiencing problems. fabulous! Especially considering that previous comments had also mentioned similar issues.
In short, if you only need a room to sleep with breakfast, this hotel is fine. If you need to work, require reliable internet access and expect efficient friendly service, go somewhere else.

Room Tip: If here in summer avoid rooms facing west as there is no airconditioning.

The Hotel is great: friendly staff, decent breakfast, nice rooms with free WiFi, reasonable price. But the location.. it is some kind of middle east: turks, arabs, women in paranja, strip bars, casino, alcoholics. Not the best views of Germany.

Anyway, if you don't care - Mirabell Hotel is a great choice.

humer 1829 really said it all. We had a double room on 4 on the courtyard, not on the street. The internet worked fine and breakfast was great. It is in a Turkish neighborhood so unless you like that type of food, you would have to walk to the train station for something. We did walk 2 blocks in the other direction and had an okay meal. Bring your own washcloth and shampoo & conditioner. Hand and body wash are supplied. We had a coffee pot with instant coffee and tea, a hairdryer, safe and refrigerator in our room.

Room Tip: No street noise if on the courtyard. There are about 5 steps to get to the elevator.

Stayed at the Hotel Mirabell for a week. A nice hotel with clean but small rooms with plenty of outlets, and an excellent breakfast. Located conviniently near the Hauptbahnhof and the pedestrian district of the Altatadt. The hotel Internet barely worked however - it was constantly difficult or impossible to connect to hotel wireless, and it was impossible to browse the web. With the high cost of cell phone data for foreigners in Germany, broken hotel Internet was not acceptable at all. I would consider staying here again, but only if I could be assured that the Internet would work. I unfortunately must recommend any of the many other hotels in the same district which I can only assume had working wireless.

Stayed here as part of a week long trip to Europe that stopped for one night in Munich.

Found this hotel after arriving by overnight train from Amsterdam. I found a strip of hotels near the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). I shopped around for a bit before selecting this hotel. The price for one night was about 90 Euros which included internet and breakfast. This hotel worked for me because it was near the Hauptbahnhof and walking distance to other parts of Munich.

Check in was efficient and the room was located on the 3rd floor. Room was surprisingly large and had 3 beds. Two beds were back to back and the other was across. Bathroom was a decent size. Room also included a complimentary sparkling water and piece of chocolate which was a nice touch. I was too tired to really know if the bed was comfortable. Internet worked well in the room.

Breakfast was served in the basement of the hotel and was quite good. Large selection of meats, fruits, coffee, and various juices. The food and beverage was constantly being refilled and serviced by the staff. Probably one of the best breakfasts I have ever had at a hotel. Breakfast was included in the price and I would have paid extra if that was not the case.

On the day of checkout, I left my luggage with the hotel while I checked out Munich. I returned that evening to pickup my luggage before my overnight train ride to Paris. Additionally, I used the internet terminal in the basement to check on hotels for the next night in Paris. Internet was fast and a printer could be used as required.

Pros: Good location for various transport options in Munich and beyond; price was better than most surrounding hotels; breakfast good; close to Oktoberfest grounds (did not attend)
Cons: For some, the area might be a little of a walk to decent restaurants and livelier parts of Munich
