“Lovely hotel, nasty area.”
Reviewed 11 October 2013 via mobile

This hotel, while quite nice is in a very bad area. Casino's & sex shops & quite a dirty area. My husband & I never felt unsafe but this area alone has made us not want to return to Munich.

Our room was big enough for the 2 of us, pretty comfy. Tea/coffee facilities in room. We slept in the most comfortable bed we've slept in since our bed at home & we had a comforter we shared instead of individual ones. Plus there were 2 pillows each which was a lovely change as everywhere else we've stayed we've had to ask for extra pillows.

The bathroom had a handheld shower head over a bathtub. Pretty good water pressure from the shower head. Vanity was also a reasonably good size.

We dealt with nice check-in staff. The bar & restaurant staff were wonderful. They remembered us each time & gave us fantastic service. I hope the hotel is extremely proud of their bar/restaurant staff as they are a wonderful asset.

We had a lovely breakfast, no complaints. Dinner was really lovely too, we ate there for the 3 nights we stayed here. Restaurant is Italian & has a reasonably wide selection of choices with good wines.

Wifi is only free for one hour a day & only available on the ground floor unless you want to pay €12.50 for it to be in your room. We only used the free wifi.

Train station was only a short walk from the station but if you have big bags or lots of luggage, get a taxi as the footpaths are uneven & difficult to push wheeled bags on. Taxi will cost you less than €10.

When traveling internationally, I usually look for a Marriott as I know what I will get. This hotel is just a 10 minute walk (if that) to Oktoberfest, shopping and Farmers Market, and maybe a 5 minute walk to the train station. The room was fairly large, and this hotel provided the nice touch of bathrobes, bath slippers, sparkling wine and water, and fresh fruit. Full breakfast and free internet was included in our room, and we found ourselves at the hotel's restaurant for dinner on 2 nights. Surprisingly, this hotel, located in the heart of town, was quiet. While I agree with other reviewers, the surroundiing area is a bit seedy, I never felt unsafe. This hotel does offer parking (for a fee), but the garage was always full the 4 nights we were there; we were able to park at the Hotel Cristal for 25 EUs a night. No question, if we are there again for Oktoberfest, we are staying here!

We decided to stay walking distance from Oktoberfest as taxis are hard to come by. The Marriot Courtyard is surprisingly quiet considering it is on the central road. They gave us a 6th floor room facing the courtyard, very spacous room, quiet and clean. There is no room service, but their restaurant is cute, the kitchen is open so cooking can be observed, and the service is both friendly and efficient. Definately recommend this hotel if you need to be in this part of town. If you wish to use the bar for breakfast for just a cuppa for a few euro - or the whole self serve deal, which at 23 euro ain't bad. The bar serves a choice of 2 on tap beers, in addition to the usual bottled brews. If you are looking for local food though, this ain't the deal. It caters to cosmopolitan tastes to include the cheesburger, although hamburgers were invented in Germany - which comes with chips and homemade ketchup and white sauce. Yum.

Room Tip: For a quiet room ask to face the courtyard, the 6th floor was very quiet too

The first thing we encountered at this hotel was very helpful and efficient staff. The room was clean, comfortable and a good size. The area is a bit seedy but at no time did we feel unsafe. It's 5 mins walk from the main station and close to the main tourist attractions and tourist information. We also ate at the restaurant and once again the staff were very helpful and the food was good. Excellent breakfast. Would be happy to stay in this hotel again.

Location is convenient, hotel is very clean, staff helpful and friendly. The neighborhood is a little seedy, with clubs and peep shows. However, I was walking the street at 4 am alone (female), with no problems. Stayed 2 nights and walked everywhere from this hotel. Room was clean, big and service was very good. I would stay here again.

I looked at some of the other reviews and true it is in a kind of turkish, scrounge area with weirdos handing out on the street but it is very safe. Had this been the US no way would I have agreed to stay at this hotel. My partner is a Marriott fan so we cashed in points to stay here during our trip to Munich. It was perfect since the Octoberfest event was on and rooms were crazy expensive. The rooms are large and comfortable. Ours faced the street so we could watch the parade go by from our room. It lasted over two hours. In spite of facing the street the room was quiet due to german building and thick windows. Had this been a us city we would have had to put in ear plugs for the thin walls.
The breakfast was included in our stay and it was ok not great but decent and filled us up. Typical with a ton of german breads, cold cuts, cheeses and as in every european country and every hotel the nastiest bacon on the planet. Not sure why Europeans cannot get something we take for granted in cooking bacon especially since they love pork so much but for some reasons the Germans cannot could a piece of bacon to save their life. Same all over Europe. Tough and chewy and lacks flavor.
The only thing else that bugged me is the bathrooms were small and the towels flimsy. I always ask for two extra.
But overall for a budget hotel good value and perfect if you are planning to use the trains around Germany.

Luckily my husband and I only had 1 night to spend in Munich as we needed a city to fly home to NY from our 2 weeks in Austria. Munich was that city.

As a Marriott Rewards cardholder and rewards member for many years I decided to book the Marriott Courtyard City Center after reading the reviews on here.

When our taxi was driving us to the hotel my husband and I were talking about what a sleazy area we were in (sex shops, dirty street). To our surprise, our taxi stopped and there was the hotel.... in the middle of this area. I did not feel safe at all.

The walk to the REAL "city center" where you want to be is almost 15 minutes and you have to walk through this seedy, dirty, sex shop filled area (and, keep in mind, we are from New York!)

The hotel itself was decent - typical Marriott - no frills. The staff, however was very nice and accommodating with maps and directions.

If this hotel were transported to the real center of where a tourist wants to be, it would be excellent. However, the location really kills it. My husband and I had to take a taxi back to the hotel that evening because neither of us would have wanted to walk through that area to get to the hotel.

Look for a hotel closer to the tourist area.
