“cool boutique hotel in great location”
Reviewed 18 August 2010

We had a great stay at Cocoon. They've taken an ordinary building and turned the rooms into fantastic funky little pads. Great place to stay for a relaxed time, and the location is excellent, nice walk into town and good connections. Overall a really cool little boutique hotel.

I had booked into Cocoon on the strength of the website and the reviews here, and I wasn't disappointed.
I haven't included any pictures as the rooms looked exactly like the ones on the hotels website.
Yes the rooms do have an odd bathroom which is part of the room. There is a shower, sink and toilet which have a door that slides across and covers either the toilet or the shower. And has been mentioned before the shower cubicle is in the room. However there are decals on the shower which cover most of the person showering, and to be honest, you have just shared a bed with this person, are you really going to be that prudish about them seeing you in the shower?
Despite the rooms compact style there was plenty of storage with shelves and a wardrobe.
The window seat with laptop table and ipod player were a welcome addition, as was the free wifi which was fast with a strong signal. It was good to have a DVD player that also allowed you to play music. However the TV didn't show BBC which the room information said it did. There were also plenty of plug sockets in the room.

The staff were very welcoming and our lack of German wasn't a problem as all staff spoke good English.
The breakfast was good and there was plenty to choose from, including fresh fruit. We are both vegetarian and felt that there was plenty for us to eat. As it is a buffet style breakfast you can eat as much as you like and really set yourself up for the day. Some people have mentioned that they thought €9 was a little steep, but I think if you bought all you ate in a coffee shop you would pay more.

The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the town centre and about the same from the train station.

My only tiny complaints, and this really is splitting hairs, is that I would have liked an extra pillow (but kept forgetting to ask), and that the bath towels are too small to wrap round you.

I can also recommend Cafe Rothmund which is just round the corner. It has a small menu for evening meals which changes each day and includes at least one vegetarian option. Most staff speak some English and are happy to translate the menu. We spent a couple of nights sitting outside there and ate there twice. You can also get a leisurely Sunday breakfast there.

I can heartily recommend Hotel Cocoon and plan to book in again.

Recently spent two weeks in Europe and would say this was best value Hotel. Friendly, very accomodating staff, bicycles for hire at the hotel was a cool idea. Rooms small but well appointed and clean. We even had a nice sized balcony. We did not have breakfast so cannot comment.

We are at the Cocoon for a few days and appreciate the feedback others have left about this place. It is very comfortable and well located hotel -- plenty of everything within walking distance. The subway and trams are a half a block away.

We have two rooms, one for us and one for our son, but they are the same double rooms. The shower is wonderful (one personal head and one rainfall overhead), and for those who are a bit shy about the glass shower and being visible to all in the room -- well they have put up decals over the middle of the glass for some privacy (we have a cow decal... don't know if they are the same in all rooms.) Parking is safe inside their courtyard. Breakfast was quite nice with a large buffet selection of meats, salads, granola/cereal, breads, juices and a do-it-yourself espresso machine. We compared with a local breakfast place down the street which charges 6.80 Euros as a starting price for breakfast -- at 9 Euros, eating at the Cocoon with the full buffet is a better deal, especially if you are a hearty eater.

All the folks here have been incredibly nice and helpful, in spite of the fact that we don't speak German. They speak English, and very well.

If there was anything I could suggest, it would be to help us find a way to do a bit of laundry as we are on the road. They pointed out the drycleaner, but we needed to do a full wash. It is difficult to even do intimate laundry as the rooms are a marvel of efficiency and have no place really to hang damp things. But if that's the only problem, I can live with it.

After walking around Munich, the idea of a "cocoon" is really welcome. We are sitting in our window niche as I type, enjoying the breezes and planning our next days peacefully. And the wi-fi is free and works well as you can attest!

Definitely would recommend the Cocoon Hotel for anyone -- it is fun, welcoming and a pretty good bet for visiting Munich.

Stayed at Hotel Cocoon for 4 nights. Very modern looking with lots of quirky features but would not say it is anything special. The rooms are pretty tiny and extremely compact, just have the basics in - shower door covers up as toilet door aswell! Staff were okay, breakfast is served at the restaurant but it is quite pricey at 9 euros a night, considering rooms are around £70 per night breakfast should have been included in this price.
Location of hotel is okay, you can walk into the centre (15 mins) or use the underground.
Turned air conditioning on when we arrived and this caused me to have an extremely sore throat so be wary as i'm not sure how often the air con is used.
Also the pillows are like large cushions and go flat when you lie on them so its best to ask for extra pillows.
Overall okay hotel but there are probably better hotels out there for the price.

I chose this hotel after reading other reviews - and I was drawn to the retro feel (check out their website). The hotel is close to everything you might need - short stroll to the shopping area and restaurants and close to train station. Rooms are compact but big enough for couples.

Excellent little hotel. Apart from a little issue at check in we had a great stay. We arrived at the hotel at about 11am not expecting to get our room, but only to drop our luggage. We were told to come back at 2pm and our room would be ready. We returned at 3.30pm after a good initial explore of the central area of Munich to be told that our standard room was not ready. We said that’s fine, but we had booked a suite. It took a few minutes to sort that out and the fact that we had booked breakfast and should not have to pay another €9 each for that. Both issues were resolved quickly and professionally.

Our room was on the top (6th floor) at the front of the hotel. We had a small decking balcony which gave an excellent view of the adjacent park, the nearby church and further away some of the higher buildings (mainly churches) in the city.

The suite was well worth having (although we paid less than half the price for a similar hotel in Granada 2 weeks previously). It was spacious, quirky – bath in the lounge and an interesting double aspect window from the shower back into the bedroom and lounge area.

Plenty of sockets for phones, camera’s and the netbook – free internet access too.
The bed was comfy, although we should have asked for an extra pillow and even though the temperature outside was -3 during the day and colder at night, the room was cosy and warm with both a radiator and aircon.

There was an excellent spread for breakfast, including smoked salmon and cava, which really impressed Mrs Braveheart. All buffet, with lots of opportunities to return to savour another taste of Bavaria.

On Sunday, our luggage was again stored until early evening until we were ready to leave for the airport.

The location was great for our needs. Sendlinger Tor underground is only 1 stop from Marienplatz and the U6 goes directly from Sendlinger Tor to the Olympic Park. The Tram Stop is also handy for lines 17 & 18 – sightseeing of the old town and museums in 1 direction and Botanical gardens and Schloss Nymphenburg in the other.
