“The worst hotel I've ever been in my life”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2011

I arrived to the hotel and the personnel didn't spoke english, just german. I wonder how they can make any business.

After arriving to my room the water to have a shower was just warm and the room so cold I couldn't even sleep.

The bulb in the bathroom was broken and when I called to get it repaired they took up till next day to do so. So I had my shower in the darkness.

I don't recommend this hotel to anyone not looking for a nightmare. Honestly, the worst experience in hotels in my life.

Comfortable rooms and good service at excellent price. Some of furnishing was very retro. Excellent location for walking to centre ... and Hofbrauhaus

Travel to Munich once/twice a year on business....always struggle to find good accomodation, good location in this price bracket......this is by far the best so far and will definitely be going back...the staff make the place, very friendly and helpful, deco is modern and hip, location perfect.

For the money paid I think it is a great hotel with perfect location. The rooms and lobby have a modern desgn touch. The breakfast was more than satisfactory. I belive I found the spot to stay in Munich.

The design of the Coccoon can first seem to be original. But, after a first glance, you will fast notice that it is low-quality design and low-quality furniture all over.

However, the worst part of the Cocoon is its service at the front desk. Rude, uninterested in the guests, not welcoming...so imagine what a "great" start for a short weekend get-a-way!

The rooms are ok. Small, with nothing special about them, although beware that there is no real bathroom, since it is "integrated" within the room with a sliding door (when you are taking a shower, the sliding door which closes the "shower area" can not be used for closing the "toilet area", as it is the same door...difficult to explain, but it is a weird design).

The location of the hotel is a bit out of the way, but very close to great bars and nighlife in the area. Walking to the town hall will take you around 15 minutes.

We did not have breakfast at the hotel after having seen the terrible service at the front desk. So we decided to have breakfast at a cool cafeteria in order to interact with the locals.

Good value, cool rooms, eat breakfast at a local bakery for better value.

Hotel Cocoon was a great find for us. It's in a great location on Lindwurmstrasse, half way between Sendlinger Tor and Goetheplatz U-Bahn station. Incidently, these stations are on direct lines to the both the Olympic Stadium and Allianz Arena if you are going to visit them.

We arrived mid-afternoon and were checked in quickly and efficiently. We had a room on the top floor at the back of the hotel with a shared balcony and a view over to the mountains in the distance.

The room itself was decorated in cream, green and orange, with darker wood accents. There was a flat screen TV, Wi-Fi, iPod dock and DVD player all available in room. The bed was very comfortable and the shower/toilet cubicle design was great. That said, it's probably only suitable for couples since the shower cubicle is glass (apart from the sliding door). If your not happy with somebody being able to see you shower, don't book this hotel!

Breakfast is an optional extra at Hotel Cocoon. At 9 Euro it may seem quite expensive, but I found it to be fairly good value for money. You can book it at the time of booking your room or book it when you get to the hotel. Each person will receive a token that you give to the person in the breakfast room. Go up and get your breakfast and the token will be collected at your table. There is a bar at the hotel also (it extends from the reception area). Fairly reasonable in price. You can get a beer, wine, hot drink.

As I mentioned, the hotel is well located. You can walk to the Oktoberfest site and the city centre in 10 minutes. Also closeby is a cinema, a McDonalds's, along with a number of cafes, bars and restaurants. Drinking in Munich can be expensive, so choose your bars carefully. If you fancy a night in drinking, there are a number of small supermarkets near the hotel (turn left out of the hotel and head in the direction of Goetheplatz). You'll get a bottle of wine for 3 Euro and the famous Bavarian beers for under a Euro (much much cheaper than you'll pay for them in a bar).

In conclusion, this hotel comes highly recommended. It's design is not to everybody's taste, but we liked it a lot. It's clean, modern, airy and cool. We'll be going again!
