My husband and I stayed in a double twin room on the 4th floor for 3 nights. It was a good size room -enough space for our bags and coats etc. The design was very clean and modern but not sterile. There is definitely some street noise because of the tram that runs below so if you're a light sleeper consider earplugs. There was a fair amount of remodeling happening at the hotel while we were there. When we arrived we were given a third floor room next to the fire escape that had construction workers running up and down it. The reception staff and manager graciously moved us to another room when I pointed out the noise/intrusion. Breakfast was tasty and The ladies who run the dining room are delightful. All in all I would say this is a great place to stay if you are doing the touristy thing in Munich but don't want to stay too close to the crush of people and church bells in Marienplatz. It was a lovely walk into the city center from the hotel in the morning and very easy to take the S Bahn back at night after dinner and beer.

What a great boutique hotel, right outside the Ost Bahn, this is a superb location for visits to Munich and elsewhere. Ultra clean Hotel, the staff are so very friendly and helpful, and their English was so much better than my German. Breakfast is a great start to the day, food is very good quality and very tasty and the staff in the breakfast room are fabulous. Good advice on places to see and how to get there and they even give you a discount on travel tickets. If you are looking for somewhere to stay on a break or work trip to Munich, look no further you have just found it. Thanks guys...

A wonderful hotel with an excellent and friendly service. The breakfast was exceptional with regional German products and dishes. Our room was beautiful and perfectly maintained. The receptionist, especially Ms. Giagia was so helpful and gave us all the necessary information (not only for places to visit, but also for restaurants to eat, transportation tickets and toy stores for my son). I think that the hotel is an excellent I choice for staying in Munich from all standpoints.

We've just returned from a 2 night stay at the Design Hotel in Munich - and what a great stay it was!

Firstly - getting to the hotel couldn't have been easier! After landing at Munich airport we hopped straight on to the S8 (overground train) and took the 30 minute direct journey straight to Ostbahnhof and exited the station right in front of the hotel! (For Londoners/Brits - the Munich airport to train system is like it is at Heathrow where the Heathrow express is easily accessible inside the airport). The exit escalator/stairs from the station are literally outside the hotel doors.

We were warmly greeted, checked in, given info and our room key. Our room was on the 4th floor and was very spacious! It was nicely decorated, modern and absolutely pristine clean! It was a very typically German room in that it was very functional! Whoever designed the room had really thought about what a guest would want and I found the room to be very comfortable. The bathroom was also spacious and again it was super clean! The toiletries were lovely and I loved the large mirror and smaller magnifying mirror. The hair-dryer wasn't very good - my hair kept getting caught in it, it was a typical hotel hairdryer. This didn't matter though as I only used it once. The wifi was ok - a bit slow at times, but again it wasn't a problem - and also it's a beautiful old building so I expected it. Another thing I liked about the room was that there were plenty of plug sockets around so it easy to charge things and use appliances at the same time!

As there aren't any fridges or kettles in the rooms the hotel provides guests with free cold drinks and snacks - we had mar bars, peanuts, oranginas and much more! It was great! I'd also let the hotel know that it was my husband's birthday (hence our trip!) and they very kindly left a mini bottle of sparkling wine, 2 glasses and a birthday card in our room for my husband! This was really appreciated and a very thoughtful gesture :)

Breakfast on both mornings was delicious - there's a large selection of hams, cheeses, breads, cereals, fruits, eggs - everything you could want! I really enjoyed it - and especially liked the jams: apricot and sour cherry and the homemade kirscher museli, yummy! The breakfast ladies were also really friendly and very nice!

I loved the location of the hotel - just 2 stops from Marienplatz, the main city centre area. The journey literally took 3 - 5 minutes to get to Marienplatz. It was nice to come away from the hustle and bustle to a more quiet and residential area. There was also a delicious and traditional restaurant (Zum Brunnstein) around the corner which was very affordable!

The staff at the hotel are really fantastic - everyone spoke perfect English and were very helpful and friendly. They answered all my questions and very kindly provided a kettle and an extra blanket when we asked. All the staff we encountered at the hotel were very nice - the cleaners, workmen, reception staff and breakfast ladies :D

I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Try the jams at breakfast!

The hotel is located directly across from the train/subway station at Oostbanhof, a 30 min train ride from the airport. They have an escalator down to the station at the front door. Inside you are greeted by very friendly, well-dressed staff that welcome you to the establishment and quickly check you in. The room we had on the 3rd floor was very comfortable and chic and had everything we needed. The bedding is very comfortable. There is no bar fridge in the room but to compensate the drinks are available at a mini-bar in the lobby. A beer is 1 euro and wine is 3 euros. Soft drinks, water and juice are free. So are the chocolate bars, chips and nuts. A great touch.
The area where the hotel is located is beautiful. There are shops, restaurants, bars and coffee houses everywhere. Everyone spoke English which was great for us. We ate out every night at a different restaurant and had fabulous meals.
The museums, shopping and transport links in Munich are world-class and fabulous. We spent four long days looking through gorgeous museums filled with awe-inspiring artifacts and stories. The weather was unseasonably delightful and while the city dwellers complained it was too warm for the third week in February, we loved it and walked nearly everywhere we went. When we didn't the excellent tram system transported us quickly and efficiently.
I should also mention the breakfast. Served in a very quiet and well done breakfast room, there was plenty of delightful European delicacies and choices. Italian coffee complimented everything very well. For 10 euros per person it was an exceptional price.
We will definitely return to the Stadt Rosenheim upon our next trip to Munich. It was perfect.

Comfortable beds, elegant decor and a breakfast to remember - the hotel is a perfect staging post in Munich too with the S-Bahn just outside the door. The refurbishment has been a success too with the best features retained and all the comforts of a modern hotel added. A contemporary classic.

Dear Aeddan,
thank you very much for your kind words. We are delighted that it is noticable that we put a lot of effort into retaining the "best features". Even though it would be easier (and less expensive) to just make it all new. We are glad that you like our house and are looking forward to welcoming you back to the hotel.

We spent at the Rosenheim the days between Christmas 2013 and new year's eve. The staying was quite good, the room big and very clean, the position in the city optimal with great connections by metro or tram. Some minor issues impacted on the final judgement are: the level of noise of the room (it was on the first floor with windows on the square); the not so kind behaviour of one of the two receptionists (the guy was always smiling and helpful in providing information, the girl was a bit cold and serious) and the lack of hot drinks in both the room and/or the common free access area.
