Description: If you find yourself wandering the cobbled streets surrounding Marienplatz - Munich's central square and a main tourist attraction - and maybe, just maybe feeling a little homesick, knock on the door of the Victorian House Restaurant and see what welcome you receive. Modelled on a traditional English home, tourists and Brits alike love the Victorian House Restaurant the comfy upholstered sofas, the imposing portraits in heavy gilded frames, the antiques, the thick floral curtains. The traditional afternoon tea of neat finger sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, sweet strawberry jam and a pot of Earl Grey. Though perhaps a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale or a G&T goes better with lunch or dinner. While there are plenty of identifiably British meals, there's more than just meat and two veg on the men. Surprises such as Mexican chilli noodle bake regularly appear to stir up any threat of stuffiness. The Victorian House Restaurant's interesting wine list is similarly international. But you're always brought back to Blighty, what with the five-star, service bone China dinner set, silver cutlery and crystal glasses. Thankfully, you can leave the stiff upper lip at home.

I have been here a couple of times now for breakfast, and have thoroughly enjoyed each experience. The menu is very wide, and the food is delicious (I particularly like their bread rolls, or 'Frühstückssemmel'). The tea selection is bewilderingly huge too, and it is 'real leaf tea' which makes a lovely change - and perhaps justifies the rather higher price. The staff are very friendly too, and service is quick, despite the café's always being full. I love the atmosphere too - it's almost 'too English' to be 'truly English' (think interior of a stately home!), but that just adds to the whole experience really. It's also somewhere that can claim true English origins, and the owner is from the Isle of Wight. Overall I'd definitely recommend it for a very enjoyable Sunday/weekend brunch, and will certainly be back.

Living in Vancouver for years i have had many great experiences for authentic English Hightea. However, this time at this place was a real disppointment. It didnt start well since the beginning. a friend came with a kid, we were stopped at the entrance and the waitress told us baby wagen is not allowed. Fair enough. so my friend was preparing to get her son out while i asked where possibly may we sit. She looked at me with her plain face and said we must get the kid out from his wagen first. We did and finally sat down. my friend asked politely is there a kids chair available, no, answered by her. Ok, so we understood children are not too welcomed here. Anyways we were in and we ordered two full tea set (€21 per set) and one cream tea set (€14.80) there were 4 of us. With such price, I was looking forward to the scones, and expected them tasted just as close as the real British scones should be. Lets just say, they dont deserve the price.
Now comes the most horrible part, my friend's son needed a diaper change, so she took the little guy to the restroom. Since this is not a child friendly place, of couse she couldnt find the most common equipment in europe, diaper change table, in the restroom. Without it, it was almost impossible to change a baby. She saw there was an empty separated room next to the restroom, and there was a place against the window which she might be able to use. Just when she walked in, a man, probably the manager, went in to stop her very impolitely. He shouted at her " hey! Hey! You cant do it here, go to the restroom!" And he gave my friend a very nasty look on his face. We were so shocked with such customer service, calling customers HEY, instead of Mrs.? Just unbelievable. Of couse my friend should have asked first, that was her fault, but she didnt deserve such impolite treatment!
Lastly, they could have told us that, sorry, children may not be suitable here at the very beginning. but they didnt. If they did let us in, we expected to be treated at least with some basic manners, respect and services!

Stumbled upon this place when exploring Christmas markets of Munich. Originally planning to go for kafee und Kuchen but were intrigued by the name. On looking inside the place was packed on a Wednesday afternoon at 3pm so we figured must be good.
Nice selection of tea. We ordered the cream tea set (scones and tea) and afternoon tea set (scones, sandwiches and tea). Scones came hot from the oven with plenty of clotted cream and jam.
Considering how busy the restaurant was and the fact there was only 2 servers, he managed to stop and chat and exchange pleasantries.
Would definitely go back
