“Good traditional food, good atmosphere, cosy”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

My wife and I enjoyed an evening meal here. Traditional food was well cooked and delicious, the staff was very welcoming creating a friendly environment, very much a place to linger over another beer.

“Very good food”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

As we stayed at the Le Merdien, this restaurant was right across the street at the entrance to the old town and recommended to us as an alternative to the very expensive meals at the hotel. We were very happy with the quality and service here, both for breakfast and dinner. If in doubt as to what to try, take your waiter's suggestions as we did on what to eat, and you will not be disappointed. All we can say is ....Prost and yummmyyy. Enjoy!

“Homey Frankish food”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

Our hotel sent us here for local specialties. It is a darkish, tavern atmosphere, more locals than tourists, good food, very generous portions. We had the pork shoulder, and the Frankish sauerbraten-same recipe that I make, but they use more of all the spices than I do. I also love their big German green-and-vegetable salads.

“The Jury Is Out On This Restaurant”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

Pillhofer is a typical Bavarian restaurant that is located next door to the Hotel Victoria. We dined there on the recommendation of the reception staff after we checked in to the Hotel Victoria. Our request was for something close, not something elegant. The atmosphere is quaint - lots of dark wood as you would expect in a small Bavarian hofbrau. The staff was friendly. We had acceptable service but one could see how the two servers could easily be distracted by the fact that most customers were sitting in the outdoor area in front of the restaurant. The weather was pleasant and, of course, smoking is not permitted inside so the inside restaurant area was mostly empty.

We had two different preparations of typical German sausage dinners. One was tasty but quite the usual fare in Bavaria, good sausage with good sauerkraut - but not special. The other was a version of the same sausage poached in either wine or beer and, unfortunately, somewhat overcooked. If the only sausages we had order had been what I was served, my point of view would be more strongly negative. Still, based on the ambiance of the interior, good beer and reasonable pricing, we would go back for a quick, inexpensive Bavarian meal and try something other than sausages I ordered to see if other strongly positive reviews are justified.
