“Cosy place, tasty food in the most charming part of Nürnberg”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2014

We entered Zum Albrecht Durer Haus and evening just for a drink, as from the outside it looked very welcoming. It's also situated in what is probably the nicest part of the Altstadt, so that helped.

The first good thing was that our dog (Belgian shepherd) was immediately accepted and welcomed with a bowl of fresh water by the very kind owner. The place is very welcoming, intimate and cosy also inside.

After the first round of drinks (they have some good beer, even though not really local but coming from München; the wine is however Franconian, and is very interesting) we decided we were hungry so asked for some support since one of us is on a gluten free diet. The owner was very professional and helpful in this regard, marking the safe dishes with an asterisk on our menu and explaining them in order to be sure they did not contain gluten and were not contaminated. We had a good surprise in this respect, as almost all the dishes were gluten free (some of them required some small modification such as a change of the side order).

The menu is Franconian (home-made), so bratwurst, meat etc. I also sampled the ravioli as an appetizer: very different from Italian ravioli (more like the Asian variation) but very good nevertheless. The main course (both the bratwurst and the meat) was excellent! Surprisingly, they had a tiramisu as a dessert: the owner warned me (as I am Italian) it wasn't what I was probably expecting, but I wanted to try it anyway: again, it was very different (so it probably should have a different name), but it was good!

Pricing was very reasonable. I would absolutely recommend this place to eat, as it's a great dining experience in the Atlstadt. The kindness of the staff also helps a lot, you feel very welcome.

As a last thing... if you happen to use the restrooms, take a look at the window while climbing the stairs to the second floor: the view of the fortress - just a stone throw away - is fantastic, especially at night.

“Really great food, shame the service was so slow.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2014

A very nice clean and spacious dining room had a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. The couple who ran it were lovely but obviously overworked - they could have done with some help! When the drinks and food finally arrived it was all really really good. If you don't mind waiting its worth the wait.

“Very good food - superb service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2014

Small restaurant at the top of the hill near the castle in Nuremberg. The downstairs area (where we ate) seemed mostly to be used for people who had popped in for a drink with a larger dining area upstairs - which was full when we were there. Booking may be advisable if possible. I certainly got the impression that it was family run and the service was excellent (and friendly). Not a huge menu, but possibly the better for that. Really good food without the overly large portions I tend to associate with Germany. I left feeling more than satisfied but not bloated. Good beer. Much quieter atmosphere that other places I encountered during the Christmas market period. I would certainly try to come here again should I find myself in Nuremberg once more.

“A great little place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2013

When we dined here, the new owners had only been there less than two weeks. What a hard-working couple they are! They were so welcoming, & even though we only went in for a couple of drinks (and asked if that was ok), he had no problem with that whatsoever. In fact, he was so good at the customer service bit that we decided to stay & eat, & were glad we did, as the food was very good indeed. Simple, German fayre, but done really well. I hope the new owners do well, because they deserve it. We ate downstairs (there's a room twice as big upstairs), & the views out onto the square were lovely.
