Holiday Inn Nurnberg City Centre
Ranked #13 of 126 Hotels in Nuremberg
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 18 March 2012

LOCATION:
Within the main city walls of Nuremberg, this hotel is at the south-west end which is away from the central station (Hauptbahnhof) and main shopping districts within the city walls (east end and centre). By train, the U-bahn (underground/subway) connects to the Hauptbahnhof, with Weißer Turm the second station on the U1 and U11 lines, and which is only a short distance away from the hotel. Cafes and restaurants are nearby, and the rest of the central distinct, main cathedral and Christmas markets is a short walk away (10-15 minutes).

FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE:
Staff throughout the hotel were very pleasant and helpful. As we arrived very early in the day, the room was not ready on arrival, but we were offered to sit down and the room was made available earlier.

ROOMS:
We were in an apartment room in the hotel. These are a little further away but offer a generous amount of space, kitchenette (mini fridge, cooktop, microwave, kettle), iron and nice furnishings. Beds were single beds as is typical for Europe. The room had beds with a comforter on top of a sheet, chairs, table, ottoman, wardrobe, luggage stand and mini-fridge with a large LCD tv in a rotating entertainment unit - very comfortable! The Holiday Inn pillow menu is available. The room colours were an attractive gold/orange theme.

A child's bed was required, but was not able to be booked in the reservation and pricing would not show availability when entered. However, it is possible and the reservation centre or hotel staff are able to organise this.

The bathroom had a bath, shower, large mirror and toilet, also with attractive finishings. The shower head was an adequate height. Toiletries were supplied in individual Holiday Inn packaging. (See pictures.)

They are above an entry on another street (Ottostrasse). One convenience tip would be for the room security keys to be operational at this entry - I asked about this but they said that they didn't do that. However you can exit from this side doorway which is quicker when heading to the rest of the city.

AMENITIES:
Pastries are available for a limited time in the day at check-in with coffee and tea. A hub of computers with internet and office applications, plus a printer connected was available near reception (although internet was often down while there). Wifi was not included. Two bicycles are also available for use - a very nice extra!

DINING: A good American style breakfast buffet is available 7-11 a.m., but at extra cost of 15E per person/day.

OVERALL:
A pleasant, and very conveniently located hotel in Nuremberg. While there was room for improvement, these areas were tiny details. The hotel was one of the best on our trip!

Room Tip: The online booking system did not allow a child to be included; however, extra beds are available an...

A group of us stayed at the Holiday Inn Nuremberg City Center for a convention at Nuremberg Messe. The location is great, close to lots of restaurants, bars and the U-line; everything is within walking distance. We were at the hotel bar every night (Denise is a great bartender) and met lots of other Americans attending the same show. We were all upgraded to King-size rooms upon arrival (which are actually two twins pushed together), the rooms and bathrooms were very well sized. Only complaint is that an iron/ironing board must be requested, but not really a big issue. The red light district is down the street but can definitely be avoided if it bothers you. Hotel rooms are quiet. Will definitely be staying here again next year; we stayed at another hotel two years in a row, but everyone enjoyed this one much more!

Room Tip: We all booked single rooms, but were upgraded to doubles. We spoke with people that stayed in the an...

I booked this hotel for a colleague and myself as we were visiting Nurnberg for an exhibition.

Having booked and paid for two separate rooms in advance, when checking in I was stunned to hear that the hotel was full and they did not have enough rooms for us.

The manager I spoke with was rude and arrogant and was almost proud to tell me that they overbook the hotel every year for the same exhibition. Not once did he say sorry and in the end, they put is in an apartment and we had to share a room, which is not a big issue as I get on well with my colleague but the way this was dealt with was appalling.

The hotel itself is nice and no issues with that but for me the attitude of staff means a lot and I have to stay in a lot of hotels for work but this was the worst experience I have had in many years and I will never stay at this hotel again.

You will read that it's close to the Red Light District, and indeed it is around the corner, that being said it's legal in Germany and there were no issues. Hotel is bright and freshly renovated, Rooms are large by European standards, bed are comfortable. Breakfast in the morning is excellent. Location is walking distance to the old town.

Room Tip: Walking distance to Nuremberg's old town

This is the first time that I stay in an holiday Inn and feel like a luxury hotel.
Stopped in this hotel by chance. We got a beautiful suite and an excellent treatment. Every was great.
The breakfast was also very good and with a large range of choice.
Will come back for sure when in the area

I have been here several times and I have complained about the availability of internet. It was very costly. This is improved, free wifi now also in the room. Very happy about this.

The service was again very good. That is what I am used to here. I did get a very nice room but that was an upgrade since I am platinum member. The room was basically a double standard room. The standard rooms are already a decent size but this room was very large.

The suite is with an additional separate toilet and does have all the things you need. The mini bar is poorly stocked but is free. (only 2 drinks).

The breakfast is good. They make egg to order if you want and for the rest you can order your own coffee (esspreso f.e.).

Some people complain about the location but when you go out the front go left and you will not be bothered by the redlight district. The hughe advantange of this hotel is that you are in the middle of the city and can walk immidiatly into the center.

Parking is a bit expensive but that happens more often in city centers.

I stayed here for four night stay whilst on some business in the area and was very impressed with the hotel; one of the best Holiday Inn's that I've have stayed in.

The hotel is situated very close to the city centre, just inside the city wall and within short walking distance to the main railway station (10 mins) and U-Bahn station (1 min). There are numerous restaurants all within a short walk of the hotel.

The hotel building seems fairly new, but the design is sympathetic to the local surroundings and blends in well. My room (on the 6th floor), which had a good view of the city wall, had a well appointed bathroom, large bed, flat screen tv, iron, safe and fridge.

Internet access is free - just ask for a code from reception. If you don't have a laptop, there are four computers in the lobby that are free to use.

The breakfast was excellent; a menu with a cooked food selection, plus a buffet with the usual meat, fruit, muesli, yoghurt, bread etc. Even though the breakfast room was busy, service was fast. I think I had a pot of tea within a couple of minutes of sitting down every day.

I only tried the restaurant once in the evening, and while the service was good, I wasn't too impressed with the food. However, this may have just been the dish that I ordered and I would be happy to go back and try something else.

Reception, breakfast and cleaning staff were all friendly and polite. Taxi's can be ordered at reception and arrive from a nearby taxi rank in a couple of minutes.

Yes, this hotel is very close to the red light district, but for people to give this hotel a bad review because of this is completely unfair. Firstly, it's completely legal in Germany. Secondly I walked through the area every evening on my way back to the hotel, and at no point felt uncomfortable or at risk. I think you'd struggle to find a more harmless red light district.

As for one reviewers comment : "The hotel appears to operate as an annex, as the number of comings (sic) and goings. Kept the receptionist busy directing 'nieces' to their uncles", I saw no evidence of this and simply don't believe it.

As the previous reviewer stated: I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Nuremberg.

Room Tip: I stayed on the 6th floor - had a great view of the city wall.
