“Cozy, colorful, ,charming and very home-like”
Reviewed 22 January 2012

We were looking for a nice, conveniently located place to stay for our short weekend-getaway to Regensburg and found the perfect place. This small and charming hotel has seven individually designed rooms. Each of them with its own allure.

When I called to make a reservation I asked for a room with a single mattress (a French bed) for us, since we don't like those beds with the annoying gap that's created by two separate mattresses, and were hence given the Ireland room which is very pretty. Also, before we got there, we were told that we'd be greeted by a complimentary bottle of red wine. As I prefer drinking white wine I asked if we could have that instead. When we got to the room we found both a bottle or red and white wine standing on the chest of drawers, with two bottles of water, water and wine glasses and a bottle opener. The TV is a huge flat screen TV mounted on the wall for a good TV experience. You also have access to free wifi in the rooms.

We were served a good German breakfast with a nice choice of German bread (Brötchen), fruits, cold cuts, cheese, jams, peanut butter, Nutella and cheese spread. You can have eggs as you prefer them as well (boiled, scrambled, etc.). Also, there's cereal and yoghurt. For drinks you can have water, orange juice, coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato, whatever you'd like. A hearty meal hosted in the beautiful, charming, cozy dining room which also has a nice white couch and piano in it.

A most enjoyable and relaxing stay!!

We needed a room for one night stay and Castle seemed a good choice. The location is convenient and just 10 minute walk from the hauptbahnhof and easy to locate. We rang the door bell and were greeted by Rory who owns the hotel. Our request for a quite room was honored and we stayed in the Greek room. Rory has done a lot of traveling and the rooms are decorated with the memorabilia from his past travels. The room we stayed in was on the opposite side of St. Petersweg and faced a small cobblestone pedestrian street which was pretty quite and it being a rainy day on a Sunday there was not much traffic either. There was complimentary red wine in the room that was just perfect for the cold weather. Rory gave us the instructions to access the free wifi as well as told us how to reach him when needed as he lives in the same building with his family. Main attractions and restaurants are easily reached on foot and so are the shops.

Room Tip: Ask for a quite room facing away from St. Petersweg.

Castle hotel is one of many bed and breakfest -like places in historical Regensburg. We had reservation and arrived around 3 p.m. to settle in. Nice, soft spoken, receptionist, manager, morning cheff and maid in one person told us that they prepared a special suite for us. It was in the adjacent building in rather smelly basement with windows on pavement level of busy street. When we were walking away to find some decent accomodation in the city, he found a nice room in the first floor. The room was clean, furnished super-simply with some originality (no kitsch) and looked ok so we accepted it. When he disapeared around 4 p.m. to reappear next morning, we found that tv is not working, there is no telephone and we cannot get to web because there is nobody to tell us local pasword. Getting a medical emergency at night is not recomended because you probably do not find any help.
Multitasking representative of the hotel appologizes nicely and non-stop whenever he is present - well he does it for a reason.

Room Tip: Go above ground level if possible, its on busy street

Stayed for 2 nights and was impressed by the high specifications and individuality of the rooms. Everything was simple, modern and unfussy but with lovely little touches (chocolates and complimentary fizzy water and wine, beautiful blanket on the bed etc.). The breakfast was also superb with real attention to detail from the host. More homely than a large faceless hotel. Recommended.

I made reservation at the last minutes. The staff is very helpful and sent me an email to make sure when I will be there.
It is a small hotel but very nice and clean. Staff is very friendly and wants to help for anything he could.
Bed is not very big. Since I travel along, that won't be a problem.
Wireless is free and speed is okay.
Wooden floor feels very clean and comfortable. I just love it.
One little thing is not that good, the toliet seems a little bit problem... but not hurt.

Stayed the one night at this hotel (really a boutique B & B). No problems with arrival at all. All the rooms are decorated on a geographical theme, ours was 'Asia' and was very lovely and cosy with good en-suite bathroom facilities. The Rumanian owner was extremely likeable, entertaining us with stories of his accident-prone father over breakfast :-). Breakfast was a choice of cereals, eggs to order, yogurts, meats, bread and cheese with juice and coffee/tea. Quiet location, only 5- 10 mins walk into main city area. Wish we could have stayed longer. Only reason for 4 instead of 5 is lack of free parking but this is not unusual for German hotels, even large corporate ones.

We arrived at the hotel at 4.40pm to find that the doors were locked and, although 2 phone numbers were given, no one was answering. We walked, carrying our bags, into the centre of town to the tourist information point and they tried to phone, but again no answer. We walked back to the hotel and after an hour someone turned up to let us in.
Our room had broken and dangerous light fittings but the room itself was OK.
On the last day of our stay we asked to use the (advertised ) computer access to check in for our flight but were advised to go to the station to the internet cafe.
