“Part of Thurn and Taxis visit”
Reviewed 19 March 2014

Great insight to this famous family. The 90 minute tour of house and monastery was in German (fair enough), but the English audio guide was too brief -almost minimal. They should look at providing more info as is done elsewhere on the continent. DO visit it!

“Check the opening times”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

If, as I did, you turn up on a wintery afternoon only to find the palace isn't open and you can't look round by yourself, don't let the flakes of snow and the bleak, grey skies depress you. Go and see St Emmeram's church (the entrance is just outside the palace gates), which is fabulous. And when you get home you can order a souvenir online from the shop. A pot of honey, say, from Princess Gloria's Tea Kollektion.

“A Christmas Market Must See!!”
Reviewed 17 January 2014

This is a beautiful castle from the family by its name. In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful of the Christmas markets in Germany. Very unique items for the holidays. If it is cold, they have little warming huts to take a quick sit down to warm up. Probably had more unique gift items and Christmas items than other larger markets. The way it is layed out, it can handle a lot of people and still not seem overcrowded. On this visit, they had 2 baby camels on display which I have to say I have never seen a little one. I have to say that as a baby, the camels are just totally "cute and cuddly". The interior of the castle is extremely pretty plus the historical positioning of the family that dates back to the Roman Empire and their history is very interesting.
Castle is open only during the Christmas market period each year.

“If only we spoke German!”
Reviewed 13 January 2014

We did the tour of the palace (offered when the Christmas market is on), which is only given in German. We were given audio guides which were very informative, but the guide seemed very witty and passionate and we did feel we were missing out. However it is still a good tour and the palace is lovely and interesting with a fascinating history. The Christmas market in the courtyards is just stunning, what a setting. It really feels like stepping back in time and was very crowded. There were some interesting stalls, but it was the atmosphere that was the big winner. A must when in Regensburg in December.

“One of the highlights of Regensburg”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

The interiors of this Schloss are beautiful and the story of the Thurn & Taxis family is a fascinating backdrop to Regensburg and the role the family and the city played in the history of the Holy Roman Empire.
