A very busy place with delightful food. The service is friendly, but quite slow. On a busy night (we went on a Friday) it was loud.

“Don't be surprised when you find a company faster than a free table”
Reviewed 20 November 2011

It's a fantastic place with absolutely unique atmosphere and delicious food. The restaurant is small, an so are tables, chairs and even dishes. Shortage of space push people to be together and talk together, so don't be surprised when you find a good company faster than a free table. Last time we were waiting for a place to sit almost one hour, but it didn't feel like waiting at all: we were drinking wine, enjoying little chats with people around us and having fun. If you think about reservation - well, think in advance of a few weeks.
I haven't seen there any menu, it's the owner, Nikos, who comes and offers specialties. Even if you don't know Greek food, he'll help you to find your dish. Usually, he offers a mix of starters at the beginning, including tzatziki, tiropitakia (small pies stuffed with feta), melitzanosalata (aubergines' appetizer/spread) and many others. It's worth to take them as overview of Greek tastes and to get familiar with Greek style of eating - everything lands at the middle of the table and is supposed to be shared. For a main course my partner ordered garides saganaki (shrimps in tomato sauce baked with cheese) and I took sardeles tiganites (fried sardines). Both dishes also ideal for sharing. And their taste... simply the best!

Note, it's perfect place for vegetarians, too!

All the evening I felt I'm back to the times I was living on Crete, just thanks to the original food and that atmosphere. The only I don't really enjoy there, I'm sorry to say, is Nikos's wife with rather German than Greek attitude. Fortunately, she operates only in the areas of the bar and the kitchen ;-) Anyway, Nikos Tavernaki is the best way to travel to Greece within one evening - just cross his threshold.

“Great little restaurant”
Reviewed 23 June 2011

The little restaurant has a nice and quiet location right in the centre. It is always full, so either reserve or come early (Nikos opens around 6). The food is great; meze to start of with and varying dishes afterwards. (there is no fixed menu) The host, Nikos is a very friendly person who will make a chat with you and explain all about the food. Definitely worth a visit!
