This was a Post Inn centuries ago and has never stopped accommodating guests, including Queen Victoria.
The owner perfectionism shows down to the last detail.
The Goldene Rose is an excellent choice for spending a night on The Romantic Road.

Right is the heart of Dinkelsbuhl, this really old hotel (begun in 1450) is a gem. The dark wood and slanting stairways are part of the charm; no elevator. Breakfast is fairly standard and presented nicely in a delightful room overlooking the market area. There is free parking in the back, presuming you are not driving an SUV or other big vehicle. The staff is congenial and very helpful. The hotel has a couple restaurants with good service. We stayed there twice, in March and in May of 2014 and would certainly do so again.

We checked into the Hotel Goldene Rose without realizing the history of the place. We read the story, experienced the creaking stairs, the old feel. When the town crier came by and announced the time, right below our window, we realized we weren't in Kansas any more.
Dinkelsbuhl started out as a one night stopover and ended up being one of favorite experiences in our four years of living in Germany. And the Golden Rose was where it all began.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the town square for the full experience.

It is hard to express how nice and interesting the Goldene Rose Hotel really is. The Ollman's are very accommodating and want you to have a nice visit. The rooms are modern yet definitely have the expression of being very...very old. The floor in our room had a noticeable but not distracting slant and the door way is low. The breakfast is very good and the restaurant is wonderful. The overall character in this place, including the picture of Queen Victoria during her stay here in 1891, makes it all well worth the experience. If you want a Hilton do not stay here, but if you want to be immersed in a medieval town and enjoy nice lodging then give it a try.

Room Tip: Ask to see the rooms...all nice and clean. Some are bigger for just a few Euros more. Right across...

Wonderful old hotel with so much character and history. Wonderful food in their restaurant. The restaurant was full on a Monday night with lots of locals too (good sign). Treated really well and just loved the town. Wonderful place to visit. Shopping is very unique too.

This review is intended to make future guests aware that this a very old hotel in the medieval part of town so there is no point in expecting a modern, cosy experience with full facilities. I am not criticising the hotel.

We arrived after 9 at night as our taxi driver got lost twice en route from Stuttgart Airport. Fortunately the owner speaks good English and he sent us to a large quiet room in Annexe No 2 which is 75m up a cobbled road and up two flights of stairs. The hotel is very dark inside due to extensive use of dark wood panelling and low wattage lighting.
Our room was straight out of the 1950's with creaky floors and robust furniture. The heating was not functioning fully until the hotel filled up on our second night. The bathroom was cold and the drain backed up when using the shower which is unhygienic. Our double room was large and comfortable, so no complaints there.
Regarding room facilities, everything is 'extra': Wi-Fi, use of the room safe, mineral water...unusual for today's hotels who go out of there way to please customers..
Breakfast was adequate, we used a local restaurant for dinner so I cannot comment on the hotel food.
Most of the staff are friendly, and some not so much.
Overall I would have difficulty scoring this hotel higher based on this stay.

Room Tip: The Annexe blocks, 1 and are quiet as they are located up a cobbled lane approx 75m from the main h...

Stayed here during winter (January 2012).Its a 500 year old hotel. Nice big room with very classic setting. Breakfast is simple but good. The town is very unique. The building shapes and colours looks like in fairy tale. The hotel is located in the middle of the town, so its easy to see the whole town by walking.
