We stayed in the building over the road from the hotel reception. All very quaint. Great location as more or less no cars but parking just by the hotel - set on a pretty tree lined square. The room was a good size and nicely decorated. Curtains could have been better as they didn't close properly (not wide enough). Beds were comfortable and no noise from outside. Bathroom was old fashioned and somewhat dirty. Breakfast was great - good selection. Personell were one minute minute and then verging on rude at the next encounter - in particular the unfriendly owner lady. When we paid, she didn't say, thanks or have a safe trip or anything, just "there's your card" and she walked off! But, as I say, nice location in a beautiful town, for the price wasn't too bad. Not sure if we'd stay again though.

We were right across the tiny street from some of the rooms in the inn and the breakfast, but no problem. We had a very quaint room in a lovely building with a full bed and a twin bed with high sides with pillows we used as a sofa! Very comfortable and a very nice bathroom.

The male proprietor spoke more English than the lady. We were able to communicate fine. We were just three min or so walk to the center of town. Town is precious! Shouldn't be missed! We had a lovely dinner on the Main Street, Serving excellent food!!

The Internet only lasted for two log ins and we couldn't contact them at night so we were given one more log in the next day at breakfast. Breakfast was wonderful. Very nice buffet.

Parking was a few steps away from our building, but if those few places are taken, you may have to pay for parking very closeby.

We had a difficult time finding the hotel even with the GPS, but it got us close enough on the narrow streets that we looked up and saw it!

I love the old-fashioned hotels in Germany. While I stay for business purposes in mostly four and five star business hotels that are exceedingly comfortable, they lack character and are forgettable almost as soon as I move on. The Weisses Ross in the medieval and colorful little town of Dinkelsbühl is the opposite. It oozes charm. The owner is present and greets you on arrival. He checks on you at dinner. He checks on you at breakfast. The staff is very friendly and can communicate in English. The food is solid German/Franconian and Bavarian fare, not fancy, but well prepared and good. Sorry but I did not like the local pilsner, but loved the local dark Hefeweizen. My room was super spacious and the bed exceedingly comfortable. I had a large and modern bathroom and all towels were fresh and new, if a little on the small side for the bathing towel. Not a big deal. I loved my little chair in the corner of my room by the window, I sat there for hours working and looking out onto the quiet little Steingasse which runs by the hotel. My only problem was the horrible clanging of the bells of the Catholic Church at the unreasonable hour of 6 a.m. Someone really needs to do something about that, like all of the hotel owners getting together and demanding that the priest allow their paying guests (and the locals too!) to sleep soundly in their beds beyond 6. Other than the bell experience, I really enjoyed the historic Weisses Ross and will definitely return the next time I am making the long haul from the Austrian border up to Frankfurt. And contrary to what a German reviewer wrote, Dinkelsbühl is a very colorful town, much more colorful than Rothenburg ob der Tauber with many houses in pastels and deep colors. There is a much greater variety of restaurants and pubs and little cafes to enjoy here, Rothenburg has more tourists but less restaurants. I know, I lived in Rothenburg for ten years.

Room Tip: If you are like me and sensitive the the sound of clanging bells ask for a room which is facing away...

We stayed in Dinkelbuhl and the Wiesses Ross at the end of June 2013, we booked a triple room hoping for the converted attic that can sleep more than two and provide a little more space. We were provided another room on the ground level of the building adjacent to the main house/restaurant. Even though we did not get the room we had hoped we were not disappointed. Dinkelsbuhl is a GREAT little town. It has the same feel as Rothenburg od. Tauber which is about a half hour north, but with 90% fewer tourist. The hotel is off the main square on a small back street but is still central to everything as the town is not that large. The lay out of hotel is different but actually makes the Gasthaus feel large. The owners use the street that runs between the town buildings as a street side cafe and because there is little to no vehicle traffic you get the feeling like you are on their own private back lot.

The entrance and lay out is again a different but they have tastefully decorated the interior and it all seems to flow and you feel like you have stepped back in time.

The following are the pluses and minuses of Hotel Weisses Ross:
+ Quaint and quiet
+ Rooms tastefully decorated
+ Rooms have a fridge / mini bar, hair dryer and plenty of soap and towels.
+ Proprietors were pleasant and helpful
+ Had free Wifi
+ Sufficient parking on the side of the hotel
+ Beds were comfortable, (firm but comfortable)
+ Breakfast was plentiful, nicely laid out and with made to order eggs
+ Value for money

- No kettle or coffee maker
- If you have more than one laptop or tablet you will only be able to connect one device at a time.
- If you are particular about a certain room then you need to ask for it. (We booked a room thinking it was going to be the attic conversion and ended up with something different).

Neutral Remarks:
If you like lamb then the hotel restaurant which specializes in this will be a great option for you. As for us, we do not care for lamb, it meant we went elsewhere to eat.

Overall: Love the town, thought the hotel Weisses Ross was a fine establishment that was warm and cosy and full of character.

We stayed at the Flair Hotel overnight so as to break our journey to Garmisch Partenkirchen. We arrived early afternoon and were greeted by the landlord who is a pleasant fellow and who quickly booked us in and dispatched us to our room. The room was an attic conversion that reatined many of the original features. It was spacious and although in the attic the height was no problem (I only had to duck under 1 beam), I'm 6' 3''. Didnt eat evening meal in the hotel, but the food at breakfast was average.
To pass the time before we journeyed on we explored the town of Dinkelsbuhl. Normally we would stay in Rothenburg ob der Tauber which according to the guide books is similar to Dinkelsbuhl but more commercial and certainly more frenetic.
Unfortunately the only similarity is that both towns are medieval walled cities that have been restored. There is something missing in Dinkelsbuhl and it took quite a while to realise what it was. In a word it is character, the majority of buildings are painted in varoius shades of drab brown and although are in the main very well presented they are bland and uninviting. This also the only town I have been to in Germany where there are no trees lining the streets. The shops in the town centre are uninspiring and do nothing to invite the customer in. The restaurant where we ate was almost empty as indeed were many that we passed, in fact the whole town seemed devoid of life. Dinkelsbuhl is OK for a days visit, but no longer, from a personal perspective I would rather fight my way through the hordes of tourists in Rothenburg (yes I know Im a tourist as well) than wander aimlessly through a town that cleary needs to rely heavilly on tourism and yet does very little to promote it. As a footnote we were there Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, the busiest time of the week.

Very old buildings, but comfortable rooms with adequate amenities - in a "storybook" town. Breakfast was amazing! TV could be replaced/updated, but otherwise everything very satisfactory.
