As our last stop in Germany we stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Schlosskrone in Fussen. We had booked a Comfort Double Room - Maximilian (no.142) which was very nice. Located on the 4th floor, we had a lovely view out onto the street with the mountains behind. We paid for a parking space in their underground car park which was handy and offered a lift straight up to the 4th floor which was great as we don't travel light. A very nice breakfast was included which is served in the building next door. The hotel is situated very close to the centre of Fussen which is lovely, so everything is within easy walking distance. The castles are a short drive away.
Our room had air conditioning which was a plus as the hotel is very well insulated so is quite warm. We were there on the night Germany won the World Cup, which caused noisy celebrations well into the early hours with shouting and car horns being sounded. Fortunately our room boasted triple glazing. Shut the window and nothing. Not a sound! Brilliant. All the staff were also very friendly and helpful with very good English. Overall, if your going to Fussen, its a great place to stay.

If you want a clean (well run) hotel in an urban area, close to world class tourist attractions (i.e. Neuschwanstein Castle), the Schlosskrone could be the right property for you. Plus = Friendly and helpful staff, rooms are well insulated so road noise is minimal (despite central Fussen location), underground garage is excellent especially if you need secure parking and no door dings, walking distance to the old-town and restaurant options, and rooms are spacious (studio style) with nice bathrooms and amenities. Minus = Half board (meal) option is not a great deal and selection is limited, internet connectivity is sporadic, and no real space to hang out (i.e. tiny lobby) if you want to chill/read/etc.

Room Tip: Avoid the half-board option (limited menu options and not a great value).

The rooms are very standard, looking like an Alpine skiing hotel room rather than a town hotel. The pillows were very uncomfortable. The internet connection is very unreliable. The breakfast is very average. The staff is not the most friendliest altough I have not experienced anything specifically annoying, it is just that they are all the time super busy, they hardly pick up the phone. Probably they are under staffed. The car park is very annoying and very excessively priced. The location of the hotel is perfect but I belive the charge rate is very excessive as compared to the value you get.

Room Tip: Do not pick this hotel if internet connection is vital for your preference.
