This hotel was, hands down, the most welcome and biggest surprise of our 3 week trip to Europe (mostly Germany). I booked this hotel after reading reviews on Tripadvisor and I must say, most of the reviews & pictures do not do this Hotel any justice! I will admit, I wasn't expecting much from this hotel but boy was I wrong!

This is a gorgeous little boutique hotel located in Füssen (meaning "feet" or foothills) and it is only minutes (drive) away from the castles that you are most likely planning on visiting while in the area.

After a 2 1/2 hour drive, we arrived in the area around Noon & we were greeted with rain. Lots and lots of rain. As we pulled up into the Füssen city center, we spotted our hotel almost instantly.

Unfortunately, there is no place to park directly at the hotel when checking in (you need a key to pass through the gate) so I had to find somewhere to park so I could check us all in. After a 4 block (or so) walk in the rain, I located the front desk.

The staff was absolutely friendly and very happy to see me as well. They all spoke English (to accommodate my limited German) and they had our information ready to go so they checked us in instantly.

The rooms were not quite ready yet at Noon and I also neglected to book "UNDERGROUND" parking specifically. I inquired about said underground parking and they found me a spot in their garage right away (it costs a little bit extra - plus, the standard parking lot is many blocks away as well so aside from the pouring rain, the underground parking is well worth the extra 2 euro or whatever it costs).

Even though the room wasn't ready, the front desk gave me a key to enter the parking garage (they're usually not allowed to do that) and we really appreciated them "overlooking" the rules considering the intense and steady rain outside.

As soon as we pulled into the garage, they had our name up on our specific parking space. And I have to say, even their underground garage is cool! Apparently they had local high school students design the modern art/spray paint/graffiti that you'll find down there. Good stuff.

We decided to grab a coffee & dessert at their little cafe next to the lobby while we waited for our rooms to free up. By the time we finished at the cafe, they located us in the lobby and we were free to go to our rooms.

My wife & I booked the Claudia Classic Doppelzimmer and we booked the Claudia Classic Einzelzimmer for my Mom. Both rooms had a "Fantasia" theme and they were absolutely gorgeous!
The entire hotel had a Ludwig II of Bavaria theme and their art, costumes & such that lined the hallways, lobby, etc were absolutely stunning.

The beds are stereotypical german style beds meaning that two double beds are pushed together to make a King. They were very comfortable! The room itself was a perfect size for German accommodations and the shower and bathroom were very nice too. As mentioned above, we really enjoyed the themed room and we were happy to find fans in the room as well (most German Hotels do not provide air conditioning so you have to leave the windows open. Plus the high was in the lower 60's F near the end of June).

Thanks to the non-stop pouring rain all day and part of the evening, it put a damper on our "castle day". After we checked into the room, we tried to see the two famous castles, Schloss Neuschwanstein & Schloss Hohenschwangau but we gave up after two hours.

We returned to the hotel around 3:30pm and decided to explore the floors. As I mentioned, it is gorgeous. We ended up at the downstairs cafe for coffee and eventually that turned into beer & dinner plus a World Cup match.

Since it was raining incessantly, we really enjoyed the downtime at the cafe not to mention, we had up until this point, been "going going going" for almost two weeks straight so it was a welcome reprieve.

Overall the food and the service at the cafe was really good. We didn't dine at their official restaurant but breakfast was included in our rate.

We all agreed that his was absolutely the BEST breakfast that we all enjoyed on our entire trip. It was fantastic!

Overall, this was a great hotel, reasonably priced and I would recommend it to anyone planning on staying in the area. I used tripadvisor as my motivation so I hope my review helps with your decision as well. You will be pleasantly surprised at this gem hidden in Füssen.

Room Tip: Definitely reserve a parking spot in their underground parking garage. The parking lot is quite a fe...

We spent 3 nights at the Sonne this month, a fine base for visiting Fussen, Neuschwanstein and the greater area, especially for those traveling by train (it's located about 2 minutes' walk from the station). The positives at the Sonne include its bright, unique, decor, marrying Bavarian history and character with Gaudi-like modern design; it's cleanliness; a fine bar and restaurant; a vast and delicious breakfast; its location (as mentioned above); and the very friendly, helpful staff. The negative? Well, just one, really: the design falls short of uniting form and function, and instead often sacrifices functionality, with very small rooms, tight bathrooms (toilet pinned against wall, sink comes to far from the wall to open the door all the way, the large window strikes the ceiling lamp when opened all the way...those sorts of things). And while the breakfast buffet is enormous, much of the hot food is rather bland in taste. And rooms on the town's pedestrian street encounter great noise each morning with the loudest, most involved garbage collection service in the civilized world. BUT would we stay here again? YES, absolutely we would, given the important and considerable strengths noted above. But we'd ask for a room not fronting the town center, and probably pay a bit more for a larger room. Comfortable, warm, welcoming. Over-the-top design concept that falls just a little short of excellent, but ultimately does hit a fine mark.

Great location in the centre of town. We booked a Prinzeregent Room with Air Conditioning and assisted room ventilation (do not book a room without A/C in summer). Our room faced the Main Street, which could be noisy until midnight, especially on Friday and Saturday, but the rooms have electric privacy shutters so not a big problem. The hotel has limited underground parking. Make sure you definitely reserve your space in advance. Parking at the hotel is a big advantage. To enter the parking garage you must have your room key, so check-in first and then park. Breakfast is excellent and includes a glass of sparkling wine. We stayed for 5 nights and tried the restaurants recommended on review web sites, but the best was the hotel's own restaurant called Maximilian. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and go out of their way to make your stay a success. The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable. There is no tea and coffee making in the rooms, which is a detrimental point, but our favourite cafe for afternoon tea is just opposite called Sisi. The rail station, bus stops and bike hire are near by. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed at Prinzeregent room.

We could only stay 1 night here. It was part of our 3 night stopover in the area before heading on to S. Africa.

I loved the location of the hotel. Could easily walk to anywhere. We had a room with the Fussen Castle view which had a small terrace with a table and chairs. Thoroughly enjoyed the room which was a great size and the view of the castle lit up at night was beautiful.

Breakfast was wonderful. A large selection.

We had a rental car so we opted to reserve a space in the underground garage. Worth the $ I think because the lot at the hotel was very full and a lot of people walk through the area at all times of night and day. Just that little extra security for the rental car gave us some peace of mind.

I would stay here again - no question.

Room Tip: The room with the castle view is wonderful!

On arrival, check in was friendly and efficient. Room extremely comfortable, excellent bathroom and balcony area so able to sit outside (shame it rained during our stay!). Very good breakfast buffet, hot and cold choices, anything you could possibly want. Underground secure car parking is also a bonus. Had no problems finding a space and you can reserve one before you arrive. Would have been good to have tea/ coffee making facilities in room. Would highly recommend staying here and Fussen is a very nice town to explore with lots to see and do on the doorstep. Would definitely return!

Room Tip: Hotel is on a busy street so perhaps rooms at the front could be noisy. We were at the back so no pr...

We requested a quiet room so were initially disappointed to find, firstly, that our room was not ready (even though it was well over check-in time) and that it was right next door to the Restaurant. We were then moved across the hall to a room next door to the lift which serviced the Restaurant where breakfast is served daily. We were then offered a lower grade room in a much quieter location in the Hotel. The receptionist was impatient and made us feel uncomfortable when we asked for a room change as he insisted we had been given an upgrade. After this initial hiccup, we had a nice stay. The Hotel is in an excellent location right in the centre of town and a stone's throw from the main train station. Although located on a very busy intersection, the double glazed windows meant the noise wasn't a problem.

Room Tip: Asking for a quiet room does not necessarily guarantee one, but if you ask for a change once you che...

Excellent location, excellent decor, excellent ambience, excellent breakfast, excellent people.
Highly recommend it if you are planning to go to visit Neuschwanstein. Wish we had stayed longer. Rooms were good with modern amenities.
