“Excellent Hotel”
Reviewed 27 September 2010

We were very happy with this hotel. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, each one has its own regional theme. The restaurant was excellent. It specializes in game, such as venison and rabbit, but has plenty of other more standard but still delicious choices. The steak with onion gravy and the pumpkin soup were tremendous. It also had a very comfortable beer garden. Breakfast was also excellent. The location was great, just a short walk to the downtown area.

We loved our time in Fussen. The Hotel Hirsch was extremely well located - a literal stones throw away from the old town and a quick walk to the central train/bus station and other amenities. The staff at the Hirsch were very friendly and helpful and it has a great homely feel (with a pack of Daschunds greeting you at the reception). The hotel is beautifully decorated as was the room. The room was spacious (as was the bathroom). However we did have a number of problems, which we were suprised at, given all the other effort the owners have gone to to make it such a beautiful stay. The double bed was tiny (and didn't need to be given the size of the room) and didn't fit the decor at all (seemed like an IKEA wooden DIY). There were no tea or coffee making facilities and no bar fridge. Which would be OK if there were room service (we think there was room service from the bar, but not after 10am). For most travellers not a problem. For us - having to leave to catch a train before breakfast was served, it was a problem. The shower layout was awkward and we often ended up with water spread over the bathroom floor. It seems that these minor things would not take much to address, and if they were, then I would give this hotel a 100% thumbs up.

This hotel reminds me of a college dorm building. Rooms had no a/c and only one window, thus no air flow or cross ventilation. In room safe and hair dryer. Our room faced the back alley of some shops. Adjoins main shopping street and one block from a McDonalds with air conditioning, ice in your drinks and a large HDTV showing the Tour De France. During heat wave (like this July) you can get a stein of ice cubes from the bar staff. Dinner and breakfast were ok. It was so hot and when there was no cross ventilation we resorted to asking our teammate across the hall to open her door and window so we could get some air going. Nice, but rudimentary. Free computer with internet in hallway on second floor.

We stayed at the Hotel Hirsch for one night in June before visiting the castles and Fussen turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! The town is so beautiful - we wish we had stayed longer and had enough time to explore it properly.

The hotel is well located, very close to the centre of town, and it's very easy to reach the castles - there's a bus stop right across the road.

It was very quiet and our room had eveything we needed, although it was a little on the small side. The hot buffet breakfast included with the price was fantastic though.

There was a restaurant attached to the hotel, but we ended up eating in town at a restaurant called Il Pescatore. It was fabulous, probably the best meal of our entire trip!

All in all, the Hotel Hirsch was a very comfortable place to stay.

We stayed four nights in July. The hotel is in a great location next to the old town but has it's own car park so it is easy to move in and out when sight seeing. The place has a lot of character. Our room was abslulety super - it was at the end of the building with views in two directions including the mountains and a balcony (Room: Turm 3 - NB only a couple of these). Bathroom was good but the bath was better than the shower hose. Breakfast was excellent. We had a couple of drinks outside the bar but went for dinner in the town as there was a fair bit of choice including Italian, Asian and Indian. The hotel staff were always friendly and the reception very helpful. Really recommend this place - for both the town/sights and the hotel atmosphere.

We had a great stay: Day 1 we climbed up and down the Tegelberg for the great views of the castles (took around 6-7 hours including stops); Day 2 we visited the castles and walked round the Alpsee (little lake); Day 3 we hired bikes and cycled round the Forgensee (big lake); Day 4 we took the train/cable car to the summit of the Zugspitz (highest mountain in Germany) for lunch then went on to the airport.

The people at reception have always been outstanding on my arrival which was without reservations each time. The rooms were excellent as was the value for the price. The dining area and food were excellent and I've copied some of their recipes. The staff at the bar and restaurant however could use a little more training on providing friendly customer service as it was a little disappointing which was the only negative I found on each visit. It was not enough to keep me from hoping to stop by again this year when I take my granddaughter to visit Bavaria. I travel to Europe each year and have done so since 1976. I fully recommend The Hirsch and it's location is another plus.

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel, the first being in 2007, it was good then and hasnt changed. Room was large and very clean, service was excellent and the breakfast good.

We were charged a rate of 116 euros which I thought was reasonable given that 3 years ago it was 113 euros. Property is well located to the town centre but not to far from other restaraunts.

Overall throughly enjoyable stay with easy free parking right out the front. Would stay again no problems.
