“Number 1 in Rothenburg for a reason”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014 via mobile

I really loved this Charming Boutique Hotel. The moment we arrived, we were very welcomed...we were asked to relax and having a glass of champagne & were given a map & explanation of the old city. I offered my passport & they said they didn't need it. (I love how trusting the people of Old town Rothenburg-so refreshing). We were shown to our room, car was parked for us & luggage brought up.

The Butterfly suite was beautifully done. Very clean, love the decor, plenty of space & conveniences. Sweet note & turn down service with truffles.

Fantastic location, wonderful recommendations. Included breakfast was top notch. Service/staff is really great! Every single person was a delight.

The main reason I could not give the hotel 5* is because our room did not have air conditioning. We left the windows open all night (otherwise it was really roasting) but come 6a the sun & people (room on front street 2nd floor) woke me up & was unable to rest well. This is all personal preference & I do prefer it colder than most people. I also am a light sleeper otherwise the sun/people may not have bothered.

Otherwise, I am so glad we decided to make Rothenburg & Hotel Herrenschlösschen a stop on our journey. Top notch service-top notch.

This is a beautiful and charming hotel! You could not ask for more in terms of charm, kindness from the staff, great location, and great luxury. The building is very old but has been restored to a more contemporary design. There are places, throughout, that have "signs of time gone by" such as exposed brick. The hotel is elegant and welcoming. We would definitely stay here, again.

Room Tip: This is a smaller hotel, and I would imagine all rooms would be outstanding. We were in the Golden...

We stayed at Hotel Herrnschloesschen for 3 nights in July 2014, we booked via their website after looking at their available rooms/rates & taking into account the reviews on TripAdvisor. Our SatNav had no trouble finding the Hotel but the journey through the old town's (very) narrow streets was tricky, together with the street warnings about traffic, one way and parking. When we (eventually) arrived at the hotel Ulrike was anxious to get our bags & have our car moved off site, the reason is a draconian fine if a vehicle is parked without a permit for 15 mins or more. But since we had prebooked our parking with the hotel this was no trouble - it would have been problematic had we not booked. After welcome drinks in the garden we were taken to our room (our bags were already there), we had booked a suite. Our suite was beautiful with lovely little touches around the decor/ornaments. The sleeping, bathroom and sitting rooms all were furnished with attention to detail and each had its own television. The minibar was complimentary including the alcoholic beverages. An abundance of storage for clothes and separate toilet & shower/bath rooms - both with quality fittings such as Villeroy & Boch/Gerberit and a multi-jet shower. We ate in the restaurant on one night and the food was 5* however it did not open all nights but Ulrike directed us to another restaurant close by - Zur Holl (Hell in German) which although a simpler/basic menu the food/service/ambience was excellent - if a little tight space-wise. Breakfast in the hotel is included but rather than a buffet all food is freshly prepared and served, the choice was meat, cheeses, salmon - all fresh + breads, cereal, natural yoghurt & tea/coffee - basic/simple great presentation & lovely food. As for the hotel: it is kind of quirky - somewhat akin to a British Guesthouse of old...but much (much) better. There's no elevator/lift so it is difficult if a guest has mobility problems, our Senior suite was quite a challenge due to the steps up into the bathroom & down into the sitting room & balcony. When we were checking out we noted these issues with the management team who thoughtfully recommended that in future we should not rely on web bookings/web photos but telephone and discuss our requirements, interestingly she (not Ulrike) said that if the team at Hotel Herrnschloesschen felt that another hotel would better suit a customer (with such difficulties) they would recommend that hotel instead - to me that really is customer focus! Overall we were so impressed with staff/food/hotel that we asked to view other rooms to see if these rooms would be more suitable for future bookings, they did willingly but only to view rooms that were empty & being prepared for their next guests.
Our very first visit to Rothenberg - we found a lovely place (albeit those cobbled streets are a walking challenge) - with great eating houses, shops and a huge Christmas shop along with interesting places/history and a cracking hotel made this (for us) a memorable vacation.

Room Tip: If hiring a car - prebook your space if travelling in high seasons. Also if your guests have any dis...

When we planned for our Romantic Route trip, I was quite doubtful that we would have an easy trip as it was our first time travelling or 'hotels hopping' with our 6mths' old baby. Having been used to big resorts in the likes of Four Seasons etc, I was worried that smaller establishments would not have met our expectations. Upon arriving Rothenburg, Herrnschloesschen was easily spotted. It is located right along the main street of the village, easily accessible by car. There were ample of parking lots right in front of the entrance. We parked our car and was greeted immediately by a kind gentlemen who helped us with our luggage. He single-handedly carried our 4 large suitcases and escorted us to the reception. I regret not taking down his name. We will just refer him as 'the kind gentleman' from now on. At the same time, Frau Haike also warmly welcomed us by serving us some nice aperitifs. The entire check in process was flawless, extremely welcoming and Frau Haike made us feel at ease by explaining the hotel facilities, the village's attractions and even booked us a table for dinner at Zur Holl. Without us realizing it, the kind gentleman had already carried our suitcases up 2 fleets of stairs and placed them in our Tulip Suite. Frau Haike escorted us to our suite, orientated us to the hotel's surrounding. The room was tastefully furnished with modern amenities yet with hints of old charms such as wooden beams, crooked walls etc. Tulip suite is a split level suite where you will need to access some low staircases in order to reach the bathroom and living area. Not a big deal at all and it was not dangerous even for our baby. The hotel even took the initiative to decorate the baby crib with 2 cute lamb soft toys, our baby cuddled them right away when he spotted it. I had some relaxing quiet moment in the luxurious bath whilst hubby watched over the baby. Every night's turndown service was a great surprise with offerings of delightful chocolates. Tulip suite overlooks the hotel's small garden and courtyard. I will give the hotel staff (all of them) a rating of 5 stars, given their commitment, approachability and flexibility. Nothing is too much for them and they genuinely appeared to be happy working at the Herrnschloesschen. Since it was the first time for us to travel with our baby, we of course forgot quite a few essentials i.e diapers! We realised this only at about 6pm when all shops were already closed. Frau Haike reassured us that they will get the diaper for us, and immediately the 'kind gentleman' went to buy us a super large sized diaper pack! Also we kept forgetting things in the car, the 'kind gentleman' immediately offered to retrieve these items without a slight hint of displeasure. By this time, he had already re-parked our car in the hotel's garage which was quite a walking distance from the hotel. For your information, parking at the hotel's secured garage is complimentary. The kind gentleman valet- parked the cars for all guests. Breakfast was a delight as well. The hotel offered ala-carte selections which consisted of bread items, preserves (home -made), fresh juices, hot beverage selections, cold cuts, cheeses and eggs prepared to your likings. Staff at the restaurant were extremely accommodating. We realised that they've prepared a table with high chair for our baby even before we asked for it. The location of the hotel is worth every Euro that we've paid for. Travelling with a baby is not easy especially when you do need to go to and fro your room to retrieve items or to facilitate your baby's nap time. The hotel is so strategically located that we find it so easy to commute within the village. We did not get the chance to have dinner at the hotel's highly rated restaurant because my husband was too embarrassed to bring a baby to a formal/ high-class setting. Our little one tends to get impatient and rowdy during the evening time. But we were highly impressed to see that almost every table was taken or reserved for dinner during the 2 nights' we were at Herrnschloesschen. The check out process was just as easy as the check in. The kind gentleman had already parked our car right in front of the hotel during out intended check out time. The hotel extended our check out time to 1.30pm without much persuasion, they showed empathy that I needed more time to pack my 4 large suitcases. Before we left the premise, the duty manager so kindly provided us with bottles of water for our road trip. Like I said before, this hotel has exceeded our expectations in all aspects, I will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rothenburg. To the team at Herrnschloesschen, thank you for your remarkable hospitality!

This hotel has a long history and refurbished to be very modern in the inside. We only stay one night and facing to the street side seeing the church. We are a bit of unlucky when arrive the weather is not so great but was warmly gretted by the hotel staff.

We have stayed in a room whuch was very nice and spacious. We have tried out the Sauna on the basement which is quite an experience on the first day. The hotel staff has helped us to reserve a very nice resturant in town which me and my wife have gone to try out the food which is delicious. It helps to build such a good impression on the town Rothenburg.

Unfortunately we did not able to have breakfast in the garden due to the weather but it is a very nice garden that we seen and take some pictures.

This amazing gem of a hotel is in the "old" part of Rothenburg. Finding it proved to be a bit of a challenge, but it was worth it! The owners were so friendly & welcoming. The room was spectacular - complete with all the amenities one could ask for. The city itself was charming. We loved it here & cannot wait to return.

After a long drive from Frankfurt, we checked in and were warmly welcomed by Ulricke. We had welcome drinks in the secluded gardens, while our car was parked in the secure garage, and our bags were put in the room. We stayed in one of the suites. We had our own balcony as well as a little "den" area. The bedroom was spacious, there was plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom was splendid with a fabulous free standing bathtub. Decor was very tasteful with lots of great little touches such as cute cushions and ornaments, all adding to the special ambience of the place. The only drawback was that there were a number of steps up to the bathroom, and the hotel has no lift so this could be a problem for guests with mobility problems.
Breakfast was super - not a buffet, but the choice was good. Everything was freshly made and exquisitely presented. We had dinner one nite, which was superb, including the wine. The other nites we stayed there the restaurant was closed, Ulricke recommended another restaurant called "Hell" or Am Holl" in german. It was super with good food and a great atmosphere.
The room was spotless and well serviced and the staff were so friendly and helpful.
I would defininitely stay in this hotel if I wanted a relaxing pamper break.
