“Awesome Location and a Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed 16 May 2010

We stayed only one night during a family driving trip of Germany. We usually stay at four and five star hotels, but we decided to seek out authentic "homey" type accommodations for this trip. We really enjoyed our stay at the Silence Hotel. The location was amazing, built right into the old city wall. In fact we even took some wine out to the sitting area on the wall and had a nice relaxing few minutes before getting ready to go out for the evening.
Our room was room number one and they had an extra bed made up and ready for our girls when we arrived. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The girls were happy to have their own separate space and TV.
Breakfast was simple but nice and included champagne. We chose a seat by the window and had a great view of the tiny town just outside of the city walls.

The first night of our two week summer European vacation started off with the reasonably short drive from the car rental at the Frankfurt airport to the beautiful and charming medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and the Silence Burghotel. Wow, what a true pleasure. The hotel offers a family apartment which is spacious (4+ rooms), beautifully appointed, and with a perfect location within the walled city. We could not have been more pleased with the accommodations, the service and the amazing breakfast.

I can't say enough positive things about this hotel. It is by far the most magnificent hotel I have ever stayed in and I can't wait to return. I traveled with seven other friends and although we had hoped to arrive in daylight hours, we unfortunately arrived in the early evening. We were pleasantly surprised to find the owner (I think) sitting inside as we pulled up and he came out to greet us. He directed us to park right in front of the hotel and even helped us with our baggage before checking us in.

As there were eight of us, we were spread out among four separate rooms and each room was more beautiful than the one before. The canopied beds and the beautiful decorations were wonderful. Prior to our trip, I kept hearing about how small European hotel rooms were but these were very spacious. My room was located on the 1st floor which was great because there is no elevator and my suitcase was heavy. Although the room was not as well decorated as some of the others, it was by far the largest with an enormous bathroom (including towel rack) and a separate sitting area. The room was also equipped with a small refrigerator/ minibar which was super convenient as we arrived after the liquor stores had closed. In addition, our room had a rear door that led to a terrace overlooking Tauber Valley. It was simply spectacular.

Breakfast was also included and it was excellent as well. Not a huge selection but delicious nonetheless. GREAT COFFEE and excellent juice!

Because we only stayed for one evening and left the next day, we did not have time to visit the spa but it looked amazing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, particularly couples or a Girls Only Weekend but I would HIGHLY recommend staying a minimum of two days. One night was way too short.

The Berg Hotel is built right on the old city wall and provides a lovely ambiance from which to enjoy Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Our room was wonderfully romantic, with a carved canopied bed, a cozy little sitting room and lovely view of the gardens. The room just begged you to sit down, relax and unwind. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful and wonderfully efficient. The hotel is very thoughtful and provides umbrellas for their guests’ use, as well as placing oscillating fans in the rooms which dealt effectively with the warm weather. Breakfast is served in a dining room with an incredible view of the valley which beckons you to linger over your morning cup. Breakfast is an above average spread consisting of breads, fruit, cereals, cold cuts, cheese, juice, coffee & tea. I cannot imagine a more romantic place from which to explore Rothenburg.

Coincidentally, we stayed in the same room (Nr 15) that was reviewed in a few previous posts. Indeed, this is a very nice room! almost a suite. There is a sleeping area (see pic) and a seperate sitting area with a large couch and a Loewe LCD TV. There are 2 safes in the room, and standard coffee making facilities. The toilet looks newly renovated with a large rain shower and new sinks and commodes.

The best thing is the view overlooking the Tauber valley. Greenery stretching across the valleys with toy like houses scattered on the opposite side. This is possibly the best view of any hotel in Rothenburg. All I can say is that if you are even considering staying at this hotel, just go ahead and do yourself a favour by asking for a valley view. Otherwise, I think you would be missing out on one of the big reason of visiting this place in the first place.

Internet is free of charge, just ask the reception for the password to get yourself connected to the wifi.

This has to rank among one of the most charming hotel that I have stayed in.

Looking for the perfect place to stay in Rothenburg? Burghotel is the place! It is within the walls -- in fact, it is right ON the wall. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a parking garage if you drive there. Once you park, you can easily walk to everything in town.

Our suite was incredible! It was huge, and had a fantastic view overlooking the valley. We could also access the outdoor terrace. Two large bedrooms, plus a large bathroom and separate toilet room.

Nice breakfast buffet.

The hotel's rooms were excellent and the breakast was great. The staff was helpful and frendly. Only negative was that the parking while is a private garage was a bit expensive.
