We visited germany and france last may. Went to Munich, Rothenburg,Frankfurt and Strasbourg, France. Among the hotels that we've stayed in, this is my favorite! It is small but very charming with lots of character. Not to mention the fresh honey still in a honeycomb that they serve at the breakfast buffet. It is also right in front of the walled city entrance. Would definitely stay in this hotel if I ever shall come back to Rothenburg!

This hotel missed for me but not for reasons all will find important.
Most importantly we speak no German and this is our fault and not the hotels but the hotel was listed on US sites. When we got to our room there was nothing ,not a guide, magazine or anything else in English couldn't even figure out the TV . At about 830 pm went downstairs to get someone to help, since the phone in the room doesn't work, there was no one at the desk and no one available and I was told by the bartender that no one from staff was there. A customer who was there came to the room and got the TV reprogrammed but again not one English station including the news.
When we first checked in they showed us to a tiny room located downstairs ( basement to me) and I mean tiny. I went back up and asked to be changed which they willingly did and put us in a one of pictured gabled roof rooms. Much larger, and more comfortable but this left a very unpleasant taste and memory. Why ,if available, go for the worst instead of the best impression?
We had the breakfast buffet in the dining room the next morning and by any standard it was very nice. The selection was excellent and the eggs nicely cooked to order.
Maybe it's me but if you want to be successful as a boutique hotel catering to international customers there should be some consideration given to languages other then German. This is said not as critisism but as a suggestion for improvement.

This hotel is excellent. It's located about 50m from the old town walls so in a minute or two you're in the middle THE most charming town you'll ever visit in your life. The hotel staff are really friendly and helpful; they were very indulgent with my clumsy German. The room was individually styled and really clean. Parking was great and the breakfast was just excellent. It had a great family feel to the place and will be one of the best boutique hotels you'll stay in.

Everything from start to finish was fantastic! Check in, espresso machine, well made furnishings, awesome shower, and... the breakfast. I agree with many of the other reviews posted here.

We visited early April 2017 with our two sons and had two standard rooms. They were not large but very clean, modern and efficient. We peeked into the larger rooms and they looked great as well, particularly the ones with outside decks.

I recommend staying here because you have parking and you're a five minute walk from the town center. We only stayed here two nights after flying into Frankfurt on our way to Garmish and then Munich. Wish we had more because it was the best place we had in Bavaria. Don't miss the Nightwatchman's Tour, no reservations required.

The Mittermeier Hotel proved to be a sound choice for our Easter weekend in Rothenburg. It's very easy to find, located on a corner just outside one of the main gates on the city wall. There is parking out the front and also a few spaces round the back (a bit of care required here is you have a large car).

There was nobody on reception, but a quick ring on the bell brought a friendly and helpful member of staff to check us in. We'd booked what was cryptically described as a "smart" room, for what seemed on the face of it to be a very attractive rate. This turned out to be a very small room with a double bed squeezed up against the side wall. This would have been fine for a single person, or perhaps a couple for overnight, but was really two small to spend three nights in. Reception was able to upgrade us to an available Superior room for 30 euros per night, which seemed reasonable. To be honest, this made the package less competitive than we'd originally thought but it still represented good value for money.

Our new room was much larger and had a king sized bed and large bathroom, as well as patio doors that opened out onto a patio area (but too cold in April to make much use of this). No fridge or aircon - in fact the heating was underfloor heating. I guess it could become quite hot in summer in that room, but certainly not a problem in the early Spring.

We decided not to have dinner in the hotel's own restaurant - which I gather has won several awards. The menu seemed expensive and perhaps a bit over-fussy - and we were spoiled for choice by the range of nice places to eat in in the town, just a few minutes walk away. We did really like the hotel breakfasts however. There was a selection of bread, ham, cheese etc but also egg-based dishes which were cooked to order (omelettes, scrambled egg etc) - all were excellent quality, as was the made to order coffee (cappuccino and lattes as well as the usual pot of filter coffee). We even got chocolate Easter bunnies on the table on Easter Sunday! Very friendly serving staff as well who we were able to practice our rather rusty German language skills on.

Room tip: Avoid the small "smart" rooms unless you are on your own.
