“Great value”

This hotel is located right near the downtown and is easily reached by walking from the train station. We stayed there 1 night and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are simple but clean and are a great value. The food is also very good and reasonably priced. This is a great choice for a budget traveller and we are planning on staying here again next time we are in town. Rothenburg is a great place to visit and this hotel made our stay comfortable.

After flying all night and driving half the day, the Roter Hahn was a wonderful place to land. If English-speaking staff is of concern to you: Owner speaks perfect English and staff also is very comfortable in English. Room was comfortable and spotless. Location right in the heart of walled village is perfect. Lots going on, but room was quiet. The only issue was parking. It is difficult near the hotel, no matter what. Because of a festival going on, the village was closed to traffic and we had to park in a public lot some distance away. However, staff was very helpful in letting us know when we would be able to drive in before and after streets were closed to traffic so we could load and unload luggage. The hotel has an elevator, helpful for getting luggage to second floor as well as for those with limited mobility. Restaurant on site was also very good.

Drove from Mannheim to Rothenburg after flying in that morning. The Hotel was lovely, old and full of charm and Antiques. The Staff could not have been nicer and the Owner was quite helpful. I only had one and 1/2 days but will return and will stay at the Hotel Roter Hahn again!

We spent two nights at the Roter Hahn in Rothenburg o. d. Tauber. The location couldn't be better; it's right off the main square. Our room was a basic double. It was clean, tidy, and best of all, very quiet (the only thing we heard was the city bells ringing every hour). The corridors and public areas are a bit kitschy, full of old knickknacks and such, but the rooms are fairy up to date. The staff was friendly and helpful; breakfast downstairs was your basic German fare (bread, cheese, sliced meats, yogurt, fruit, meusli, coffee, juice) but of qood quality. We would return; it was a simple hotel but met our needs.

This hotel is in an ideal spot. It's pretty basic and doesn't have a lot of frills or recent updates, however, it does have triple rooms. This proved to be a constant challenge for us while traveling through Germany, so we were happy to find one. Our room was small, but had three comfortable beds and totally did the trick. We noticed while walking through town that there are a ton of small hotels, all of which had available rooms, and many looked very cute. If you don't have specific needs like we did, you might want to stroll through the town and pick one that you like once you get there (if you aren't traveling in high season). This hotel had a nice breakfast, polite staff, reasonable rates, and we had a smooth stay, so we'd recommend it.

We have stayed at the Roter Hahn on two separate occasions and have been more than pleased with our accommodations. The hotel is located on small quite street just off the Market Square down a shop filled street offering everything from post cards to wine to diamonds. The Roter Hahm is centrally located to use as a base to explore this beautiful “walking friendly” Medieval Walled city. If you want to feel like you have stepped back into the era of the Night Watchmen – then this is your hotel. Our room was small compared to American Standards, but just fine compared to your typical European accommodations. Our rate included breakfast that had everything you would want to get your day started. They provided free parking that was located a few blocks from the hotel in a secured parking area.

They have a restaurant that is staffed with very friendly servers and offers some of the best German Dishes you will find in Bavaria – my favorite was a sampling of meat & sausage accompanied with hot mustard, cabbage and potatoes. We enjoyed a bottle of locally produced red wine and ended our dinner with a slice of homemade warm Apple Strudel. We had the opportunity to enjoy a few after dinner drinks in their bar (not the one in the restaurant but another one located in the hotel just past the reception desk) that seemed to cater to Rothenburg’s locals. It was here we spent some time with the hotels owner Mr. Gallus and his daughter. They along with their entire staff have been more than accommodating to our needs during our visits to Rothenburg.

We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a clean and comfortable room at a reasonable rate.

Ask about the Night Watchmen's City walking tour - he does the tour in English at 8pm.

This hotel does not deserve any business. If you ever trust a word that the hotel manager Herr Dieter A. Gallus tells you with regard to your booking you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

We have stayed in this hotel with a large group and intended to return again soon but the hotel management have decided to employ a policy of accepting a booking and then, when someone else comes along with an offer to pay more for your room, they cancel your booking without telling you and leave you without a room or anywhere to stay.

I am not a hotelier but this seems to me to be the very best way to lose customers in the quickest and most direct route possible.

Save yourself some heartache and disappointment and book your stay elsewhere.

  • Liked — The fact that I will never have to return there again.
  • Disliked — The attitude of the management towards its customers.
