“Lovely, historic hotel in great location!”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

My boyfriend and I stayed at Gastehaus Raidel per Rick Steves' advice. The reservation process was quick and easy, and the price (69 euros) for a double room was a steal! The house is absolutely beautiful and definitely has that "rustic charm" that Rick mentions in his book. The bed was very comfortable, and I love it because you can tell it's handmade along with several other pieces of furniture. The location is superb - it's about a 5-10 minute walk from the main city square. The breakfast was a traditional German breakfast with cold cuts and a few types of bread - it was very good. My only complaint was the wi-fi. The wi-fi was setup so that only one person could be on it at a time; however, I did not check downstairs to see if there was another log-in available.

I strongly recommend staying here!!

very nice and helpful host, room clean and comfortable. Still hate the fact that Germany does not understand that a couple need a double mattress..not 2 singles and one cover, not 2 covers. Location of the inn excellent and breaky was very nice also. perfectly located for a visit of the medieval village.Highly recommended.

Room Tip: take a room with a toilet.. a bit bigger.

We stayed 3 nights and the location is unbeatable, especially for the cost/night. The ambience of the hotel is also excellent and it fits in very well with the rest of Rothenburg. Breakfast is somewhat limited but still offers enough options and quantity to get you going for the 1st part of the day. You are somewhat on your own (it's not a "full service" type of establishment) but that's expected for the type of lodging and price.

Ideal location: 5 min walk to free parking, 1 min walk to ideal picture taking spot (classic Rothenburg), breakfast included (buns, jams, cheese, meats, juice, coffee)
Pleasant and helpful staff
We paid 90 euros for a family of four, included bathroom with shower
Can't imagine how old the place is, but it fits right in with the Rothenburg theme...
Would definitely stay here again...

Room Tip: We were at the front of the hotel and it was noisy in the early morning (garbage and delivery trucks...

We were only here for a night but absolutely adored Rothenburg. It was probably our favourite place in Bavaria. Like something out of a film set. It was the Bavaria we'd dreamed of. This hotel was no exception. Superbly located and a lovely, gentle manager who spoke good English and made us feel very welcome.

We parked outside the town walls, about 5-10 minutes walk away, in a public car park. There was supposedly Wifi, but I never found it. There was a communal balcony not far from our room where regrettably we never got to use. The beds were comfy and the bathroom great. Had a great night's sleep and it was a quiet place once the tourists had gone home. The room was a little hot with no fans or air conditioning, but I guess Germany is like England in that it's geared more to heat you than cool you.

Breakfast was a basic 'continental' affair but very good with a choice of cheeses, yoghurts, bread rolls and decent coffee. The surroundings are lovely. The ceiling in particular is a source or wonder. In fact, the walk up and down the stairs is an experience in itself. The house is brimming with old Bavarian charm.

Take a trip up the town walls if you can so you can see this charming chocolate box town in all its stunning glory.

We'd love to come back at Christmas!

Amazing is the word that best describes this hotel. First the price is bargain 69 Euros for a double room. Second the location in the heart of the old town is simply amazing, everything is within easy walking distance. Third the owner and staff are friendly and helpful. Fourth the breakfast included is very nice, Lastly the old world charm this hotel oozed from everywhere simply cannot be matched. The creaking stairs, old furniture and bookcases and other little charms fail to have adequate words describe them We fell in love with this hotel after only one night, if you are planning to stay in Rothenburg definitely give this hotel a try. You will feel you have walked into a story book.

We loved this place. After our last hotel cancelled our reservation we called hotel Raidel and the owner was willing to wait for us and give us a room. Very evenly priced and a very friendly owner. This place was worth it for the homey feel and the welcome we received from the owner. The breakfast was great and the whole place was like a step back in time. The room was great with a nice bed. The shower was a little dated, but still worth it. Close to the center of Rothenburg and about a ten minute walk from the train station. The owner also let us leave our luggage after we checked out so we could tour the town a little.
