We received a very warm welcome and were thrilled to see one of the hotel employees pick up our suitcases like they were feather weights and run up the stairs!! Beds were wonderfully comfortable, and the shower was the best in our three week trip.
We enjoyed our meal at the hotel restaurant...excellent mushroom soup!
You can 't go wrong with this pleasant hotel. My only complaint would be that parking was an extra 10 euros.

We stayed at this hotel in Rothenburg for 1 night.

Pros: Very close to the town square. It has it's own indoor parking lot (small space but staff can help you with parking). Note: There is a 10 euro charge per night and you have to reserve your spot in advance. The hotel has it's own restaurant and a small bar. Breakfast was included and it was decent.
The restaurant and check-in area as well as the shower in the room seems to have been renovated recently. The room and bathroom is good size.

Cons: The entrance to the hotel is weird since you have to cross the restaurant with folks eating to get to the check-in desk. There is no elevator in the building. The room decor is dated.

Overall we got it under 100 euros and it was good value for money.

Note: Most restaurants in the area close by 9:30 to 10 pm. There are very few places which are open late, so plan your dinner accordingly. If you plan to do the night watchman's tour at 8 pm, then it is recommended you have an early dinner.

We had a preference for another hotel based on previous experience and to be quite honest, this was the only hotel available that met our needs when we booked 6 weeks prior. Fortunately we weren't disappointed.

The rooms were a very decent size and far bigger than your average European standard. However, the bathrooms were your usual minimum size but still adequate. More importantly they were clean, but what is it with the liquid body wash and nothing else apart from towels? How is one supposed to 'wash' your body? I don't get it.

Free wifi was definitely an asset although only one of our two rooms had reception.

Breakfast was on the lower end of a normal European continental standard. We spent two nights and found the breakfast room very crowded the first morning with staff working very hard to replenish items (which they more or less did) and everyone was required to carefully manoeuvre around the two serving areas, staff and other guests. The second morning, we had breakfast as soon as it was available on account of our departure time and apart from the selection, everything was fine. Breakfast was adequate, just try to be early.

We ate one meal in the main hotel dining area and it was very good.

Location of the hotel is faultless and we had no issues with noise at all.

We preferred our first choice, but this hotel is definitely worthy of consideration. Room size, friendly staff and hotel location are the draw cards.

3 days planned with wife and little daughter, weather wonderful for Xmas atmosphere but freezing and not so comfortable if your daughter has a flu! Anyway the position, the simple charming german style and the absolute kindness of all the professional staff at zur Sonne made this experience unforgettable ad Rothenburg should be. Good hotel, good kitchen, good prices. Thanks.

My wife and I stayed one night in April 2012, after our original hotel cancelled our booking. We were surprised and delighted with this lovely hotel, which is clean and well maintained. Our GPS took us to a dead-end street nearby, but the manager came out and drove our car through the maze of streets to the garage at the rear of the hotel. We had the 3rd floor honeymoon suite, which was very roomy with view over the town. The beds were comfortable, the pillows thin but we had 2 extra delivered. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant, and there was a great buffet breakfast with cereals, yoghurts, breads, meats, cheese, jams, hot eggs and sausages. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Wifi was only available on the lower floors. We did the Night Watchman tour at 8pm and found it entertaining and informative – highly recommended! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wished we could have stayed longer.

The hotel was clean a tidy. The single rooms were a bit small, and the double room was average sized. The parking was nice, two stall garages with plenty room and easily accessible. The breakfast was good and dinner was excellent! Easy walking from this location and the outside seating was a great place to watch people. Great stay.

The 'Gasthof' is located in the heart of the old historical centre which contains nothing but narrow and one-way streets. It's very convenient being there, close to all shops and monuments, but driving a car there and parking it can be quite stressful. My satnav sent me through the wrong streets and finally I managed to locate the hotel myself (by coincidence actually because I saw it from the street I was driving through). When I checked in I found out that they have a private parking space at the back of the hotel. One girl working in the 'Gasthof' was so kind to guide me there. The hotel itself looks quite small and even though I booked a single room, I got a large and spacious double room instead. The room itself smelled a little strange (not to say mouldy) but it was clean + the bathroom as well. I had a very quiet night there - after 6pm, when most of the tourists have left, all shops and museums closed, there's no noise on the street. While I was driving through the streets there was still a big bustle but at night everyhing was VERY quiet. There's not so much choice for breakfast; cereal, bread... but you can order eggs if you want. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Definitely a recommend if you're going to stay in Rothenburg (and if you have a small car that fits anywhere).
