this is our second time staying at the Gasthof Butz. it's located right in the center of town with parking in front and a minute walk to the main square.the decor is rustic and homey..love the creaky stairs..the rooms and bathrooms are very clean and updated..we happened to stay here during Rothenbergs version of a renaissance festival. We got to enjoy an impromtu performance from festival musicians eating in the restaurant. by the way, the food is some of the best we had in Germany..try the knuckle pork

The building, with its creaking stairs, homey wood furniture, and large, cozily decorated dining room with family photos, hand-drawn caricatures, and Christmas figurines, is steeped in history. In our room, we found crisp-clean, luxurious linens on the bed. White-curtained windows above window boxes filled with flowers, overlook a small, quiet square with a fountain. The entire front of the house is covered in climbing ivy.

The hotel is inside the old city, and does not have its own parking. We arrived late in the evening and chanced upon an available metered spot next to the hotel, but parking can be an issue. There is no elevator, which didn't bother us at all, but might be a problem for some guests.

Room Tip: Check-in tip: be sure to observe the check-in time (by 10pm) as this is a family-run hotel.

This is family run hotel in 400yrs history building. And it's country style with GF as restaurant and 1F as hotels.
room are spacious in traditional country style and with window facing the other cute old building.
WIFI is free and stable.
Location is excellent, only 1min walk to Rathus and Dom.
Parking is convenient at the door parking place and free 6pm-8am.
There's a super large bathtub to enjoy.

However, facilities are bit outdated. and room is not that clean

Room Tip: choose room 4 which is larger with bathtub.

We booked a double room and our room had quaint traditional-style windows overlooking the street to the carpark. The room itself was basic but adequate, with a small TV (though not many non-German channels, at least we couldn't find any), wardrobe and table. The bathroom however was quite big with a large bathtub. The hosts were accomodating and provided us with a thermos of hot water when we asked if we may borrow an electric kettle.

As we had arrived around dinner time in the evening, we had dinner there rather than venturing out. The food was fantastic, a hearty home-cooked meal at a great price too. The breakfast spread in the morning was also excellent, with the german style cold-cut meats, cereal, bread, fresh fruit, juice etc. and also eggs made to order.

Location of property was also convenient, a good base from which to explore the old town.

Unfortunately the night we stayed the wifi was not working and we were told that the credit card machine was also not working, so we had to pay by cash on checkout the next day. So beware of this possibility and it would be advisable to have enough cash on hand (or at least have easy access to cash from nearby ATM).

An older place but in good repair. The location is great, right in the middle of the old walled city, but could be hard to find without a GPS. The heated towel rack was nice.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a short stay hotel.

Squeeky floorboards and stairs make you feel back in the old times. Interesting old gasthaus offering good rooms and central location to expoire Rothenburg. Breakfast is traditionally German with a good selection. A must is to do the night watchmens tour in english at 7 or 8 p.m. This tour is most interesting explaining all the important facts of Rothenburg and how it was saved from detruction during world war II.

Gasthof Butz is a traditional hotel in the centre of Rothenberg-o-d-Tauber. The room was very comfortable (you may need a second pillow) and clean. The breakfast was fine and we ate both at lunch time and one evening at the hotel and the food was first class - simple but delicious.
Unlike other B&B's we've stayed at there was little tourist information available but the Information Centre was very close.
We were very fortunate to have been given a free parking space. R-o-d-Tauber is a wonderful place which can be totally enjoyed on foot.
We found everyone we met to be very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Check on parking arrangements before arriving. We're not sure if the space we were given was fir...
