750 Years of Franciscan-minorites in Würzburg. The monastery was 1221 was founded by Caesar of Speyer with the support of Otto I von Lobdeburg, Prince-Bishop of Würzburg, and was the first Franciscan monastery North of the Alps. The monastery was not abrogated during the secularisation, but it was doomed to extinction as it was forbidden to accept novices. 1839 it was aloud again, 1841 the monastery re-founded. 1857 the monastery became the seat of the Provincial, the leadership of German Franciscan-Friars Minor-province.
