It took me three attempts to see the inside of the Dom, but it was worth it. Most of the city center of Wuerzburg, including the Dom, was destroyed on March 16, 1945 by Allied bombing. There is a great display about this in a small room in the Rathaus.
In old pictures, Before 1945, The Dom is magnificent and in pictures from the 1950s it is still a shell of a building. I think that the restoration does a nice job of recapturing former beauty, incorporating damaged statues, and adding modern design. The modern elements blended nicely with the old and never seemed to jump out and slap you in the face.
